i've had to read 1000s of posts on this board, amusingly, how Spotify and iTunes sales are the clincher in an argument about "the best"

    my time for revenge...

i do appreciate the effort of Headquarters, it's sort of a White Album for The Monkees

Not the Beatles least till Xmas 1967 and MMT.

Odessey And Oracle was recorded in 1967 and was supposed to come out in that year but was delayed because the record company wanted a stereo mix which was completed on the first day of 1968. I think of it as a ‘67 album but I’m sure some don’t. Also since it was recorded in the same studio at the same time, extreme shoutouts to The Hollies’ Evolution, one of the best psych/pop records I’ve ever heard.

And yet whenever I bring up the charts or certifications, I usually get a reply somewhere along the lines of "Just cuz it went number one and multi-platinum doesn't make it good."

My first thought is always "Thanks for pointing out the obvious."

to be fair, the Fab Four had a record release in May 1967 that is kind of hard to exclude from critical judgment of 1967 and the rest of music history...

Sgt Pepper was released in 67. Perhaps a masterpiece but I listen to Surrealistic Pillow more often so the Airplane gets my vote. Comin Back to Me is beautiful (bonus: Jerry Garcia on guitar).

If I could only pick one to go back in time to go see, its a toss up between Syd's Floyd @ UFO or an EPI Velvet Underground show.

Lemme guess who'd you pick ...

I pick "The Beatles", but I think one of the biggest groups that year
was The Airplane ... they really created a splash that year.

I remember a rather heated "Dead vs The Beatles" discussion
forty years ago ... good points on both sides.

Two others big that year: The Monkees and Jimi. Guess who
    I began listening to first?
