Love the Philips 212. That was my very first turntable. Brings back memories...

That's a trip down memory lane. I had both the Yamaha and the Philips turntable. Not at the same time, but I owned and enjoyed them both. Very nice!

I had both as well and part of a vintage setup not that long ago.

    I had the Sony D5.
Sold it to friend who still has it.
Wish I'd kept it for nostalgia sake

A lovely new home you have... tasteful, uncluttered, bright, and airy. Well done!

when my basement was first finished, i was carrying a rack, gear and speakers down there the second the last carpet was tacked in. My sister in law was over at the time and she thought it was the funniest thing she'd ever seen. My wife, however, was unfazed.

Lovin' the setup. Mind sharing which brand of stands you're using with your Harbeth?

I graduated to giving my plants to friends, so when they wilted I could blame it on them.

Problem for me is those Fisher tone controls have spoiled me. I'm not tied to the amp itself per se, but those are best tone controls I've come across and they're essential for taming a lot of treble-boosted CDs I have.

    That's okay. It's proportional to your country's size. :D

They came out with it a couple years back. I happened to be in Ireland at the time and bought a ton of it via the duty-free travel. I was hot s**t for a little while cuz it hadn't been released in the US at the time.

Love the plant life. In my last apartment I had a skylight, so it was me, my 5.1 rig and my plants. Sadly, this global situation struck in the middle of a move so for almost a year now it's just been me, a laptop and some headphones but sometime soon I'll regroup and appear in this thread as a participant rather than just a spectator. Until then, keep me inspired, y'all.

I am still thinking about thins thing of using vs not using a pre-amplifier with the Luxman mq-88uc.
My dealer recommends the soulution 325 preamplifier as top pair for the luxman but the pre amplifier itself is more expensive than the amp. I ve heard this combination a few times with Spendor D9 speakers and indeed the soundstage seem to have more depth. In terms of tonality not much difference between using the volume control on the luxman vs the soulution 325.

I ve now used the EAR 834L for about two weeks with NOS ECC82 mullards (early 60) and NOS ECC83 Philipps. The tonality got just a little darker which I kind of like but the bass looses definition which is really a drawback. Achieving good definition in the bass is not easy and is one of the things I most appreciate on the Luxman, I can't let it go. I wonder what is your experience. Have you tried variable input vs direct input?

I use variable input even with the pairing Luxman CL-38uC preamp. I'm not sure why your dealer would recommend something other then the actual preamplifier Luxman designed for that amp.
