Now in England, this is a completely different story (along with several other countries). I think they were more popular than The Beatles in America but maybe not worldwide.

 

There's so many but I'll go for The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

I know many regard it as a mediocre year for them, but I love 1967 Rolling Stones.

 

The Monkees were big, but nowhere near The Beatles here. Those US Monkees sales are phenomenal. I knew they were very big, but not that big!

I've only just realised there's three 1967 Monkees albums including two of their best. Along with the TV series and live it's a hell of a workload.

In fact, I think the year was a little overrated myself. 66 and 68 had better music.

 

I like that Belfast Gypsies album a lot.

Interesting idea. My favorite year of all time for music! The year of the great divide between albums & Singles. While it was happening some of the great rock artists made some hits despite themselves. Instead of just reflex replying Beatles, I'll list what I (JMHO) consider to be some of the out & out classic songs of 1967 and who made the most of them. Not only did the Beatles come out on top in quantity of classics, they peaked imo with some of their greatest music. A fantastic year, and I've left out bands like Love & Traffic!

What an absurdly subjective question! My answer is subject to change with the direction of the breezes, but for now "Strawberry Alarm Clock". 1967 is my favorite year for pop music by the way.

what is this fetish to discredit sales for The Monkees, they were HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE in 1967.... on record and radio and TV.....

i assume all the mention of the group is with tongue in cheek....

And In A Godda Da Vida was the best selling album of 1969.
