I'm looking forward to the new movie, although my expectation are not too high.

I love Wallace Shawn. I hope his role is not the "Woody Allen alternate" type main lead who is talking and behaving like Woody Allen.

I'm not crazy about the trailer for the new movie. I was excited when I heard it was being filmed in San Sebastian and the scenery will be fantastic, but the story looks a bit dull to me. I could be wrong! Wallace Shawn is excellent, but isn't it kind of hard to believe he is married to Gina Gershon? I will still definitely watch it and always hope for the best. I still haven't seen the "A Rainy Day In New York". Where can I watch it?

I thought "Wonder Wheel" was great and didn't understand all the negative reviews for it. Beautifully shot and wonderfully acted by Kate Winslet. I guess Justin was a bad casting choice, but he doesn't completely ruin the movie for me. I am now super annoyed with Kate and lost some respect for her. Really Kate?

Exactly. New movie coming out. Award talk. Better dump on Woody. Pathetic.

There’s a few actors that jumped the woody ship that have marred my appreciation for them now.

But.. this chit chat perhaps better for another thread.

Is it one of his better lessers? Maybe a Greater Lesser? :p

Look back a page or so and read my educated guess spoiler on the film, if you dare. Might change your mind...

I think it is a great premise. The notion that the one character who believes in the dumbest things turns out the happiest is vintage Woody. I think it lost a lot in the execution.

Fair enough. I do remember seeing it at the Landmark here in Bethesda, at the end of its pretty short run in theaters, and enjoying it/thinking it was better than I'd heard or anticipated.

But a lot of this could be low expectations at the time and my shaky memory. I just re-watched Match Point for the first time since seeing it out in the theater--I'd forgotten many of the developments and when they happened in the picture.

Same with me on all counts...though there are a couple of Landmark Theaters here in the DC region and he's always seemed to have a following in this area. So I'm a little bit hopeful.

Any of you sly boots actually at the San Sebastian Film Festival? If so, let the rest of us know how the film turned out.

    Thank you so much!

From The Guardian: the summing up paragraph that is spoiler-free. Oh, and 3 stars out of 5.

"...this fitfully entertaining film could be called adventurous, while the reliably cranky Shawn and a stately, vampish Gershon are clearly having a good time and letting us in on it. Allen may not have found any breakthrough inspiration, but Rifkin’s Festival at least has its riffs."
