Comic timing enough for Bond. Urban is a bit more diverse in his roles than most nominees. I've not seen any Thor movies though. A bit more straightforward choice might be Andrew Lincoln, who won't struggle with the accent. If they decide to go with a black actor then Chitwetel Ejiofor would be a good choice.
My opinion is that both Brosnan and Craig had stellar first films and the it was diminishing returns from there. Both Goldeneye and Casino Royale are films that stand with other classic Bond films. After that, I didn’t get the sense that the quality of the films returned to the heights of the first. It’s a bit of a disappointment for me, however, because I really liked Brosnan as Bond. He was the perfect combination of Connery and Moore (IMHO).
Yes! There’s a recent interview where he said he was channeling Connery & Moore. YouTube discussing Goldeneye ... live .. really interesting!!!
Any actor who holds up the films for five years because he doesn't feel up to it has no business being in the role in the first place. I mean, who needs him. The Bond films will be a hit no matter who plays the part -- almost. Now if only the Broccoli's would retire themselves and let somebody else creatively control and produce the movies. Any producers who must take a rest 3-year rest between films should probably be doing something else, something that doesn't tire them out so easily.
Goldeneye? Brosnan‘s personal favourite out of all his JB films! After watching DC in CR. PB said “ I could have done that”. Think he was peeved as the scripts he was getting weren’t very good.
I agree with that. I think Brosnan could have done a great job with Casino Royale. He was definitely let down by the scripts, Craig too.
Ironically imo PB got better as he got older. Producers wanted a Bond that reflected a post world Twin Towers, tougher Bond. Think Brosnan would have been very good in Casino Royale.
Good article on Hardy. https://www.theringer.com/movies/2020/9/24/21453466/james-bond-tom-hardy-007-destiny
I just can't get past Bane and Eddie Brock as Bond. That appears to be a me problem. Still, now I can't get the idea of a Christopher Nolan Bond film out of my head.
For a while there were rumors that Clive Owen was a candidate. Now he's too old. Idris is too old as well and JB is white. I have no interest in changing JB's color... why would you do that? Makes no more sense that having Anthony Hopkins play Nelson Mandela. Maybe it's just me...
Better than changing the gender. That would actually impact story choices. Changing the race, not so much. Your other example is an actor playing a real-life character. Biopics get a lot of things wrong but the blatantly obvious race of the portrayal isn't usually one of them.
Changing the gender or the race of James Bond is wrong. It is insult and it is wrong. No one tries to make John Shaft or Easy Rawlings white.
It won't depend on who's playing the character...it's all about the story, direction and the supporting cast.
Bond's main positive characteristic is being a loyal British officer - even when going rogue he stays true to the service. He is also a product of the establishment public school system. Being black would be a stretch given Bond's backstory, but not beyond credibility. As others said on page one, only two actors so far were English, and two weren't even British. The ability to act is important!
