It reminds me of music for an old people dance party .
Is there someone here who likes the song?
    Any redeeming quality?

It doesn't need any redeeming quality as far as I'm concerned. But, I would mention that John has a pretty incredible vocal on that track. It's also interesting to note that at about the same time John was writing I Feel Fine the group still found this song to be worth doing on a record, since they used to play it in the clubs. Now that's pretty fascinating when we look at it from the perspective of Beatle progress. What a juxtaposition!

Not as bad as My Mummy's Dead or the Walls & Bridges version of Ya Ya.
    But it's close.

Written by Roy Lee Johnson and first recorded by Willie Lee Perryman, who
was usually known professionally as Piano Red and later in life as Dr. Feelgood.

It was released as a B-side of a minor rhythm & blues hit single (titled "Dr. Feelgood")
    in 1962.
The record became something of a cult favorite among several young British R&B
enthusiasts, some of whom would soon go on to become members of well-known bands.

    Wikipedia tells me that:

Another emerging beat group, The Hollies, recorded and released their own
performance of the song with Graham Nash on lead vocals prior to the
    Beatles' version.

In addition, the same song was also covered by the Merseybeats in 1963.

A Spanish cover was recorded by the Mexican vocal trio Los Apson Boys
    titled "Triste Luna".

Mister Moonlight - Dr. Feelgood & the Interns.

For the record, I like it.

Always a treat when someone opens a thread stating that he dislikes something and wonders if others agree with his assessment. Is there any redeeming quality to such threads?

I like the live version in Hamburg. Don't like the Beatles For Sale version.

Cliché dusting time: John Lennon could sing the phone book, etc. etc.…

His vocal more than redeems this track, and that's even counting the cheesy roller-rink organ.

C'mon, you can endure that for a few seconds for the sake of the rest.

I don't mind it, and John did a really good job with it. The only that drags it down for me is that darn organ solo.

First time hearing the original version!
    not bad...
"...and, in the end...", it's the obscurity of the song that may have been the reason for them making a version of it to begin with...
I mean, "Some Other Guy" wasn't a big hit! I've only got to hear the original of tHAT, 'coz John played it on that WNEW '74 interview!

It's OK, obviously far from the fabbest Beatles stuff but I don't dislike it as much as many. I don't even mind the ghastly organ solo but when I first heard it as a teen in the early 90s I couldn't believe how bad it was!

Redeeming features, a good Lennon vocal and it's catchy.

Thanks for posting that. More people need to get hip to what turned the Beatles on when they were starting out. Dr. Feelgood was part of an incredible '50s Nashville R&B scene.

This comp and its follow-up are essential IMO:

I've always liked it. Sure, it was old people music even when The Beatles performed it but they almost did it so seriously it was tongue in cheek. It was almost "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" or at least it always seemed that way to me. I always saw it as a subversive version of an older generation's music but holding back just enough so it didn't become a parody. Plus it's one of my favorite vocals by John.
