Truly an overlooked masterpiece. Glad to see this album finally - FINALLIY -- getting the audiophile treatment it deserves. Now when are we finally going to get a UHQR of Blue Train and Folk Singer?
Again, really too bad so many people have never heard of this or him. "Kind of what?!?" "Miles who?!?" If it weren't for both a Sony Legacy stereo and mono LP currently available, as well as a 2-disc 45rpm reissue from Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs, and the SACD, HD, and CDs of this album, nobody would be able to buy it.
I'm sure I'm not alone here, but I discovered Miles through his Warner Brothers catalog. I had kind of dismissed him as a second rate soft jazz type. But then a friend turned me on to his lesser known Columbia catalog, and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm sure he's overdue for a critical re-appraisal.
I love Kind of Blue, but I don’t really see the need to own another copy of it. I own the mono issue from the Mono set released several years ago, the 50th Anniversary box set, a MiniDisc, an early Columbia remaster and the MFSL hybrid SACD. I think I’m good!
Don’t worry, you’re in luck. Mobile Fidelity has you covered with an upcoming One Step of Folk Singer.
Are you being serious about the “critical re-appraisal” thing? If not, well...no offence...but you don’t live under a rock, do you? Yes, you are very, very alone here.
Seems to me MMJ covered Blue Train with their SRX Mono 33RPM edition. I can't imagine what else it needs, unless you want to spend an extra $50 for overboard packaging/presentation that wastes shelf space.
I'm in for this only because (assuming) they will be the Bernie Grundman 2-track remix from the original 3-track vs. the 1997 Mark Wilder remix (MoFi). I think this is an incredible mastering/remix job based on the Classic 33 I have, unfortunately the Classic is a very noisy pressing.
This. I'm lucky to have the Classic 45 set on quiet vinyl (I had to get the first disc replaced back in the day due to scuffs and tics). For the 45, the stars aligned, the mix and the mastering both excellent. If it's a reissue of BG's work, I'm in. Also, the original 45 was a 'one step' as well. Als were many of their early 45 sets.
The neglected gem coming in at number 31 in Rolling Stone's 2020 list of the 500 best albums, a fall from grace at number 12 in 2003.
