As a social media avoider, can I ask if anyone's seen any recent posts from Mr. Sylvian? Has he backpedalled at all on his retirement from music?
DS seems to be designing album sleeves at the moment. His wonderful singing voice has been a constant throughout my life and it would be a terrible shame if he never sang again.
You should check them out.....they have to be seen to be believed but I'm pleased that he is getting close to mastering Microsoft Paint.
His Twitter and Facebook have been down for some time. I imagine that he’ll arbitrarily put them back up again at some point, but you haven’t missed anything lately that I’m aware of.
Yes, he popped up 3 or 4 days ago on Twitter, but after one tweet he turned his account off again. There are some screens of it out there on twitter.
This is up for pre order on 22 January 2021 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08LR5Z...apan+quiet+life&qid=1603834055&s=music&sr=1-9
Says it’s 2 discs so the format may be similar to GTP and TD in 2018. Wonder how they’ll handle side 2, maybe better to have 3 tracks then Other Side Of Life on its own due to length and to have the original segue / fast cut between ATP and Alien I’m expecting other formats to be announced.
Underneath it has this ——> Product information Original Release Date 2021 Label UNASSIGNED Number of discs 1 ASIN B08LR5ZCJF Hoping for at least 2 discs though!!
Robert Dean commented on a facebook thread today that it won't be 2x45rpm LPs and to wait until the official announcement that is due from BMG. So the Amazon listing at present seems pretty incorrect. I believe there will be more formats but can't say what because I don't know for sure.
To be fair to Robert, it was me that said it won't be 45rpm and he said we should wait until the formal announcement. The only thing that is really correct about the amazon listing at the moment is that there may be a release coming....
Difficult to say because their style changed significantly over the scant 6 years or so they existed. This is as good a start as any. Japan - The Very Best Of But there are plenty of other compilations covering the time they were on Hansa in more depth.
Assemblage for the Hansa era and Exorcising Ghosts for the Virgin era. There was a Best of released around 2004/05 which covered both which was mainly singles but it was ok. They released few albums so it's worth getting Quiet Life, Gentlemen Take Polaroids and Tin Drum which are all essential.
That copy belongs to a member of the band. I added it to Discogs when someone involved in the project spilled the beans some time ago, showed everyone his copy of the acetate and then, reportedly, sold it. At that point there was no harm in listing it on Discogs.
One to avoid would be the compilation ‘In Vogue’ (Camden/BMG), originally from the mid-90s but re-issued as recently as 2018. They really messed this one up, with the original left audio channel missing and the right one duplicated - so sound instrument elements are missing altogether.
