Excellent. Plus, I would pick "The Pit And The Pendulum" from 1961. Probably the best
production Roger Corman ever did. Vincent Price is great, and the entire Pendulum scene at the end
is still remarkable. Scared the crap out of my kids when they were young...

Saw this in a theater down in Fort Worth Tx... Scary thing was that I couldn't get back home because Super Storm Sandy had all the NE airports virtually closed.
Hope you enjoy it, I did.

My wife and I always watch horror movies throughout October. This year we've mostly stuck to fairly recent titles and all of them have been well worth watching.

    • The Nightingale
    • The Cure
    • Happy Death Day
    • I See You
    • Ready or Not
    • Piercing
    • Greta
    • The Hole in the Ground
    • The Wind
Piercing was probably the strangest one. It looks like Netflix has closed their distribution center in our area, so now our DVDs come from San Jose and we get fewer titles per week. We've barley made a dent in our list, so we may extend our horror fest a month or two.

Tonight we're watching our copy of John Carpenter's The Thing.

Recently on TCM The Haunting and Nothing but the Night. Still have The Mystery of the Wax Museum, for a second look. Quite impressed with that one.

  10. It was enjoyable. Not really scary and it didn't raise a pulse. I thought Ethan Hawk was pretty good, when we wasn't interacting with other characters. The little films within the films were demented and well done. The ending was cool. It was nice that the nice guys didn't get away with anything. :)

This year my Halloween movies were:

Fright Night (1985)- A long time favorite campy 80s classic- 9/10
The Housemaid (1960)- Korean film that was absolutely brilliant. Part of the Scorsese World Cinema Project. 10/10
The Cremator (1969)- Super creepy Czech new wave film. 7/10
Sisters (1972)- Classic De Palma movie. Love Margot Kidder in this. 8/10
Let's Scare Jessica To Death (1971)- Total 70s cinema. Has a very unsettling vibe about it. Not great, but I would recommend it. 6/10
Black Christmas (1974)- Early slasher film also featuring Margot Kidder. Not really my thing, but interesting. 6/10
    Eyes Without A Face (1960)- Excellent! 8/10
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)- I slightly prefer the original, but this is almost as good. Great ending. 8/10
Premature Burial (1962)- Poe, Corman, Milland. I love everything featuring Ray Milland and all the early Corman films. 8/10

Now Criterion Channel just released their November movies! So many more to watch that I wish they had available last month. On the playlist so far are:

    The Haunting
    The Uninvited
    The Canterville Ghost
    The Seventh Victim
    The Devil-Doll
    The Black Cat
    Dressed To Kill
The Masque of The Red Death

In the run-up to Halloween, I inadvertently did a Rob Zombie movie marathon:

House Of 1,000 Corpses - hadn't rewatched it since the early 00's. Enjoyable.
The Devils Rejects - also hadn't seen it since the theater. Like it.
Lords Of Salem - first time seeing it, pretty good and stands out in RZ's filmography.
31 - First viewing--movie is so-so but Richard Brake is fantastic
Halloween (2007) - I like it more than I used to, a not bad update on the original with more backstory of young MM.
Halloween 2 (2009) - Awful, awful sequel to RZ's Halloween remake. Brutal in many parts but mostly laughable.

Watched some of the Hammer films on TCM: FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN, SATANIC RITES OF DRACULA, THE DEVIL RIDES OUT, etc. Also EYE OF THE DEVIL, a film nearly completed with David Niven and Kim Novak when Novak fell off a horse and all her scenes had to be re-filmed with Deborah Kerr. Sharon Tate was also in it.

So tense and spooky I could barely continue to watch, The Orphanage it also operates on many levels.

A current release, which blends two horrors to great effect Relic.

Awesome!!!! I love Italian horror and really want to get hold of this one. It looks very creepy.
I hope it gets a proper blu-ray release ASAP. Hopefully Arrow or 88 films will pick it up.

Just rented this last night; still don't know what to make of it.

Was the mother a demon? Did she pass that on to the daughter at the end?

We're still discussing what it all meant, which is one of the strength of the film as the almost understanding makes it so creepy

My sister in law came out with all sorts of psychobabble and it's the directors explanation (Google search).

Mine was a house is not a home, a home is full of memories, so the daughter has been enslaved by the house to serve it's and her mothers needs, which the director denies.
