I saved all the (big) Music Direct catalogs I’ve gotten over the years. Don’t know why. I’m pretty pathetic.
I chucked it. I check their website every few weeks for open box / demo / closeout gear. Since I've added more fiber to my diet I have much less time to read it.
Just ordered 4 lp's Better send one of these dang catalogs people are going on about! I used to get them, they are very nice
I remember in the early days of the Audio Advisor catalog you didn’t even get actual photos of the product. They were like computer generated sketch drawings, really well done but you could tell they were not actual product. Now if you have one Audio Advisor catalog you basically see the same photos and descriptions until the product is no longer available. Almost like the only thing that changes is the cover.
The titles they pick are baffling if u ask me......I'd love Genesis~Selling England By the Pound, Rush~Hemispheres, Led Zeppelin~IV or II.....my cash remains in my wallet.
I also made some minor purchases today in hopes of getting the catalog! I figure the expensive list prices will only serve me well with my Significant Other on my future purchases... "Look Honey, the DAC I want is only $4,000... not $10,000 like those other DACs in the catalog!!!"
Good Christ. Who would’ve ever guessed that the new Music Direct catalog would be the final catalyst in the (much anticipated) start of Civil War 2.0!
definitely a behind the times viewpoint that comes from acoustic sounds chad - he is somewhat stuck in the past having talked with him at AXPONA a few times. too bad.
MOFI will pass away with its clients. More same old-same old reissues. Meanwhile, dozens of worthy candidates are passed over.
I also have no idea how MoFi chooses their titles nowadays. I can, however, share a story from my past that may (or may not!) shed some insight on the topic. In the early 80's, I worked at a hifi store that sold the original MoFi LP's. When Nautilus Records came along as a MoFi competitor, they put out Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and it sold very well. MoFi had previously released FM's self-titled LP, but not Rumours. When asked why they choose the S/T over Rumours, the response was that the condition of the Rumours master tapes was not up to their quality standards while the self-titled tapes were and that is what drove the decision. I have no idea what drives MoFi's today, but perhaps it's something around either availability or quality of the master tapes??
Well, good info and I am sure that is a huge reason they chose what they chose. As far as Rumours tapes, could be a question for our Founder and Host @Steve Hoffman if the tapes were not up to MoFi snuff back then...........Still would like to see a more varied title offering, again my cash remains in my wallet
The catalog and featured artists are from Music Direct not Acoustic Sounds, hello!!! As for Chad of Acoustic Sounds, if he is indeed stuck in the past, I'm damn glad he is.
I’ve never purchased anything from Music Direct yet I get their catalogs. I can only guess that Stereophile or TAS sold them my name in the past.
