Working with Stills gave him that boost commercially though, both Zuma and Tonight’s The Night were his first albums of the 70’s not to go Gold in the US (Zuma did in 1997), Long May You Run returned him to Gold.
Steve- My recollection, being 'around' at the time, is Stephen was not in a good place, and Neil helped him get back, giving Stills the 77 on resurgence.
I think that for personal reasons Neil chose to stay a bit far away for awhile from California. There also was his new passion for sailing. I dunno remember is Rassy already lived in Florida.
Yeah I agree, but having a half of CSNY go out as a duo, 'trying to recapture the buffalo Springfield guitar duals' was a good selling point to get people interested. And Crosby & Nash (arguably seen as the weaker members of the quartet) went gold and top five in 1975. Both Stills and Young didn't manage this then. I think reuniting with Stills was a calculated move on Young's behalf, that in hindsight as come to be seen as Young helping Stills because of Young's stature today, but back then benefitted both. Even if the album isn't that great. Do hope we get some live stuff from the tour one day though, there's an intense Cowgirl In The Sand knocking around on youtube.
This preorder from the UK store still has received nothing....no box (obviously) and no download code or free year's subscription....
I don't doubt that assessment (i.e., being seen as weaker members), but Nash did have (at least) half of the band's successful singles.
If anyone at WB is listening, I'll take vinyl copies of disk 1 and 6, plus a double extended disk 10. Sure they'll sell more than 3000 copies.
Just got an email from UPS confirming mine is being delivered tomorrow before 9pm. From U.S. store to U.K.
As a non-streaming person who now has a NYA subscription, I can now ask: these exclusive tracks he posts on NYA aren't downloadable, right? As in the only way to access and hear this material is to listen to it on a laptop and hope it never disappears from the site? If so, the subscription is 100% wasted on me. I have a mental block against streaming, I guess.
There are ways - that nobody will discuss in a public forum - nothing anywhere on the internet is 100% non-downloadable, but yes the intent is for these to be streamable only.
I'm definitely happy for you but scratch my head that my order will get to the east coast on Friday 11/27 according to UPS yet it can get to London on Monday???

I was just comparing (or trying to) the Neil Young Archives Vol. II Deluxe and Retail versions on Greedy Hand. The product descriptions for both are the same which is a bit confusing. Besides the packaging, larger book, poster and eight additional tracks are there any other differences between the two versions? Is there a list of the eight additional tracks? I'm sure this has been asked before in this large thread so my apologies in advance. Thanks!
The tape database in the Vol. II book makes no mention of this take of “Hold Back the Tears,” so I assume that this was recorded after the timeframe, most likely in mid-late ‘76.
