Hey everyone - I am moving to Florida in a couple weeks; about 30 minutes from Sarasota. What are the good stores in the area? Tampa and St. Pete are also of interest.

In particular, I'm looking for stores that carry imports (CD), if any.

    Thank you!

Bananas in St. Pete (be sure to visit the warehouse if you're into vinyl)
Sound Exchange in Tampa & Pinellas Park
    Daddy Kool in St. Pete
    Kingfish Records in Clearwater (Countryside)

Bananas in St. Pete. The warehouse for vinyl. Oh my goodness.

Oh, you missed out on Vinyl Fever by a decade but THAT was a store.

1989 record shows there were great. Amazing 45's.

Bananas warehouse is by far the best place for used records. For CDs look at their retail store.

Does banana let the public in the warehouse? Has it been cleaned out by the picker pros and overseas people?

Yes, you can browse to your hearts' content. There's one section that is off limits but you can pull lots of titles and bring them to their small listening stations to check for SQ. You might want to cross the street to their audio gear warehouse, too. I bought my Thorens TD-147 from them and they have tons of weird and wonderful used gear. They DO get the occasional foreign "invasion" of buyers but you can always call before you go to see if some of the more esoteric titles you're looking for are there.

Just an FYI - The Daddy Kool on Central in downtown St. Pete closed, and the Sarasota one is closed now too. I think their only store now is in the Warehouse District in St. Pete.

I remember the legendary Richard Minor (Google him and records) dselling at a St Pete show with 45's. Wow, great stuff. Pre Rayford I think.

Yeah, it's in a bizarre spot. I'm guessing the rent got too high on Central.
