I like to spot riffs which one act obviously lifted from another, an amusing one is the riff of "Jocko Homo" by Devo which is lifted from the track "Dogs" by Pink Floyd. Have you spotted any interesting ones?
The Kinks borrowed heavily from Jumpin' Jack Flash in Catch Me Now I'm Falling and Birthday in Bernadette.
Do we consider 25 or 6 to 4's riff "obviously stolen" from Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, or is there some leeway there?
Cotton Mather - "Better Than A Hit" Writing credit: Robert Harrison Guitar riff played by Whit Williams "Rock And Roll Fadeaway" by Cotton Mather guitarist Whit Williams Writing credit: Whit Williams Rock & Roll Fadeaway, by Daily Worker (make sure you listen all the way through the first 30 seconds)
I saw what you did there! although both follow the same descending paper, the notes and rhythms aren’t the same, with babe I’m gonna leave you using arpeggios and 25 or 6 to 4 using octaves.
Guns n' Roses' Paradise City from Black Sabbath's Zero the Hero Judas Priest's Breaking the Law from Black Sabbath's Dirty Women Wild Thing from Louie Louie Iron Maiden's Twilight Zone from Girl's Take Me Dancing The Cult's Wild Flower from AC/DC's Rock'n'roll Singer Deep Purple's Black Night from Blues Magoos' Nothin' Yet from Rick Nelson's Summertime
Steve Miller band - rock n me borrows a bit of Free's alright now. Elastica's connection apprehended for stealing Wire's three girl rhumba. Noel Gallagher, numerous misdemeanors
Girl Gone Bad (Van Halen) from The Song Remains the Same (Led Zeppelin) Edge of Seventeen (Stevie Nicks) from Bring On the Night (The Police)
Come as You Are by Nirvana copied off Eighties by Killing Joke. Plastic People by Zappa another Louie Louie. There's already whole threads on Led Zeppelin
Even if it didn't, it's certainly not obviously lifted. I mean what riff in "Dogs"? If it's the "And when you lose control" section, then that's not exactly an original, or distincitve, riff, it sounds like John Cale's version of "Heartbreak Hotel"!
