At the thrift store the other day, I found: "Anzio" "Tommy" "Doo-Wop 50" (volumes 1 and 2, combined onto one DVD) "South Park-Season 12" "South Park The Hits: Volume 1"
At a small thrift shop I found 6 copies of the 2 disc Candyman blu-ray, all shrink-wrapped, for $2 each. Kept one, sold the rest. Bernard Rose is a weirdly forgotten horror master. His Frankenstein was the best take on the legend in decades, and Paperhouse is in my top 50 movies of all time, got 4 stars from Roger Ebert, yet is unavailable in the US on DVD/blu-ray.
Good buy at 20p. BDs don’t get much cheaper than that. IIRC, my copy of this film also came from a chaz, but I think I paid the outrageous sum of 75p.
Those most recent three are all really good. And I say that as a fan of the franchise dating back to the 1970s. You did well.
I like the reboot films well enough, but I wish I would have held out on buying them at full price as they were released. "Dawn" and "War" seem to be showing up at the thrifts with a fair amount of regularity nowadays.
I found a DVD I have been looking for for quite awhile now: "Support Your Local Sheriff" with James Garner... I only wish it had been the double feature version of the film that also included "Support You Local Gunfighter", but at least I got one of them
All three reboot films have been in Poundland, in the U.K., at £2 a pop. I bought two from there, and the other at a chaz, so less than £5 for all three. Can’t complain at those prices. Those kind of big budget blockbusters always turn up in chazzas eventually. It is the arthouse stuff that is hard to find.
Got lucky today. The Critic - Complete series (animated US series w/Jon Lovitz voicing the title character) for $2.25. The Sopranos - Complete series (six seasons) for $7.00
I bought 5 today. One booth at a flea market had insane prices, I got the entire Billy Jack collection for 13 cents.
That's a great deal on "The Sopranos"- I was at a thrift store last night, and they wanted $3.99 per season (I think it was seasons one and three)... You got all six for less than what two seasons would have been at Goodwill...
Excellent deal on that... Thirteen cents is an odd price alright- Were they charging sales tax in there or was it just some crazy price they came up with?
When I was checking out the lady at the desk I pointed out the prices and she said "oh yeah, he let's his son do the pricing." I nearly asked if his son was 5. I also got a near mint double vinyl of Legend of Johnny Cash for $5 and a very good Songs in the Key of Life for $3.
These were 50p each. Never seen any of them before. Any thoughts? • The Sand Pebbles (1966, with Steve McQueen) • Hidden (2005 French thriller) • Dr. Strangelove (Stanley Kurbrick, 1964) • What’s New Pussycat? (1965 comedy) • 127 Hours (2010) • The Big Blue (1988)
Not a bad haul. Seen most of them, own a few. Dr. Strangelove is the pick of the bunch, followed by The Sand Pebbles. What’s New Pussycat? is weak, but worth a look if you are interested in early Woody Allen.
You've never seen ' Dr Strangelove '?!?! This is a fantastic movie! Forget ' The Sand Pebbles ' for now. It's a weak McQueen film and somewhat dull. Put 'Dr Strangelove ' on now!
