Apparently the long awaited Ryan Adams album is due to be released on streaming services from midnight tonight.

I'm looking forward to listening to it and seeing how it connects with existing/remaining fans.

A thread to discuss the music!

Initial reports have me expecting an album that falls somewhere between JCN and Ashes and Fire.

I’m not into the massive lag between streaming release and LP release, but I guess I get it...

I’m anxious to hear it, but it’s going to depend on which services get it, and whether I decide to stop being cheap about streaming, because I don’t really want to hear it for the first time all lossy and with ads.

I'm looking forward to this. It will be interesting to see which tracks Benmont Tench play on.

    That’s how I’m leaning.

He’s an artist from whom I don’t really need to preview releases before buying them. They’re not all favorites, but I have never thought any of them weren’t worth the money.

The last RA album that I connected with was probably Cardinology.

Fingers crossed in hope rather than expectation with this one

    It's out now.
On first listen now - sounds great so far - nice to hear dry vocals again.

Will save it for Friday night. I’ve been waiting for this for a year, can wait another day.

Yeah, it's a good one to set some time aside for.

Just finished first listen. Really great album. When You Cross Over was the highlight for me.
So nice to hear such a clean recording from him without the more gimmicky effects of his last few albums (although I still enjoyed those).
This one reminds me much more of 29 and Cold Roses, with a touch of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.

Now to see if this new Avalanches album is any good...

    Fantastic!
I like those albums, but prefer his older sound, like Ashes and Fire.

Definitely reminds me of Ashes and Fire on first listen. Gonna need to dig deeper, but so far so good.

Encouraged by the comments on here of you who have listened.

Downloaded but I can’t give it my attention until the working day is over so will give it first listen then. Friday’s aren’t bad normally, this has made it a very good one.

I didn't realize there was a separate "Wednesdays" thread (I've been in the Big Colors thread) so I'll post this here:

I'm listening to the album now on Spotify. I'm about halfway through it's very much in the acoustic singer/songwriter mode.

I don't know if it's Spotify or the recording but has anyone noticed something about the vocals that almost sounds like sibilance? I'm listening to "Poison and Pain" and the vocals are very clear but on a few of the other tracks they aren't.

Listened to most of the album on Amazon before I left for work and I’ve downloaded the hi res off Spotify.

Think it’s a brilliant album. The 2 Big Colors tracks do make me think even more that Big Colors would have been a pretty disappointing album. Manchester was the clear stand out from the 5 tracks we heard.

Look forward to giving it a proper listen over the weekend

So far this sounds a lot like Ashes and Fire, which was the last album of his I enjoyed, or indeed played more than once.
