Good luck with the book schedule. I will be interested to read more about the Hamburg sessions.

Geez - the poster got 2 songs mixed up - quite a difference from “manufacturing lies”.

    Beatles experts,
These recordings have always been know to be recorded very well with great quality and fidelity.
Apart from being recorded at Friedrich-Ebert-Halle, is there any detailed information online available
about the rest of the recording sessions?
Bert seems to have been able to sprinkle some magic 'fairy dust' on the tracks that could even make EMI
wonder 'how does he do it?'
    What gear was Bert using?
Tape recorders, tape, microphones, mixing console etc etc?
    Thanks.

Not much is known. The engineer have spoken a bit about it. It was a live performance recorded ditectly to stereo.

I would just imagine, Bert, being no slouch, would have had his particular 'toys' he was comfortable with to use,
and the fact his own material was equally parred by perfection in quality, and he also had huge hits,
more would be known about how he worked and what he worked with.
    Thanks for the reply..

Some things are known though. But mostly relating to Pete’s role.

..like Bert instructing Pete not to use his bass drum because it caused him to go offbeat.

I don't know why I've not noticed this thread before!

This era does fascinate me and something in the back of my mind made me think many a time about George sounding so different here than what I'd expect or recognise him for... :yikes:

Really i think it is the reverb that makes him sound different. Listen to I Saw Her Standing There where there also is a healthy dose of reverb. Not so different excepting the difference between playing a composed theme and an improvised solo.

Maybe it was McCartney on lead didn’t he used to play guitar before switching to bass ?
Aside ..as GH said .. he was very keen. :)

I've just listened to both songs, back to back and do see what you're saying. :agree: I suppose one could say that 'Cry' is the way it is because it was said they did that in answer to The Shadows and the success they were having at the time (if I remember rightly, George in Anthology.)

It isn’t. It’s George on his Futurama guitar. Which is one of the reasons that it sounds different. The

any recent books come into light?

Someone could have asked Mark Lewison if there was no pandemic and Beatles conventions.

When I was a little boy my aunts and uncles had their Beatle 45s (including My Bonnie and Ain't she Sweet) and my mom had Bert Kaempfert's Strangers in the Night album. Never in a million years would I have connected the two until I read about It. Not sure of it was in Davies or Norman. Probably Davies as I read that first.

    It's George Harrison.
Sounds just like his playing all over the Star Club 1962 tapes.
Same guy. Not some other guy.

He probably played the drums Atlantic/Atco added to Ain't She Sweet and the three other songs they licensed. Supposedly it was Cornell DuPree, but thats from Wiki
