Thanks again for the heads up on this biannual sale! I hit 3 stores and as others have noted, the inventory was mostly the same albums from the previous sales. So I exercised great restraint and only picked up two titles I passed on before - the single LP version of Elvis Costello's Look Now and the 2018 reissue of the big band version of Ram produced secretly by McCartney in 1971 as Percy Thrillington

Picked up the blue vinyl B&N exclusive mono OTIS REDDING Dictionary of Soul (passed on the SDE version of that which included mono + stereo +45). Also got mono TIM BUCKLEY Hello and Goodbye (Rhino 50th Summer of Love).

Again thanks for alerting us re this sale.

Somewhere on an earlier thread there's a list of many of the 50% titles, if a kind soul who knows where it is can link to it.

It's on page 8 of this thread. It's the list of the items that were added to the sale for this cycle.

Is the old list compiled anywhere for those of us who weren’t buying vinyl a year ago? Thanks

I cannot find the post from last year (most probably there was a link to google doc or something), but found this in my laptop. This time not everything in this list may be on sale...last year it even varies from store to store...so please do not assume everything below will be on sale this year at your store...

The following titles are the albums that the Clackamas, Oregon store had in the sale and in stock 12 months ago. I believe this may have been the list that you are referring too. A good deal of these titles will of course have been sold from my store (I did make multiple purchases!) but still may be available to find at another store. If anybody needs any help tracking anything down I can check and see if a particular album is still available. Apologies for the spelling - it took me hours last year to type.

The Framingham MA store was pretty picked over, if they bothered to set up the display at all. Their vinyl section has been reduced by 1/3 and the back section of the store that includes CD/DVD/BRD is pretty much an after thought these days, except for the Criterion section.

Can any of these be ordered at 50% off, or is it store purchase only?

It is store purchase only. If your local store doesn't have it you can phone a store that does have it, pay for it over the phone and have it shipped to you. Alternatively you can ask your local store to have it "manifested". They will then call a store that does have it and have it sent to your local. Most stores are willing to do this.

Went by my local B&N today here in Kendall (Miami) after getting the COVID vaccination. Told my wife that I wasn’t feeling well and buying some 50% off records would make me feel better. Complete lie.

I don’t remember seeing the Betty LaVette during the last 50% off sale, but the other three I had put back last time. Glad they were still there. The record section looked pretty much unchanged, except this time they put all the 50% off in their own bins instead of mixed with non-discounted records.

There were a couple other records that I wanted but most had heavy shop wear and/or a few creases and corner bends. Just not worth it, even at 50% off.

That section needs someone like you @Jspmike . Maybe you can transfer. Nice warm weather and sunshine down here all year long. :D

Edit: You’re right, they don’t have stickers.

I have pictures of the rest of the department if you want to see them. Sad.

Not sad at all! I love to see images of other stores - gives me ideas and sometimes makes me feel as if I'm doing something right!!!

This feels abandoned. For most of an hour I was the only person up there. The B&N employee was only there for about 2 minutes.

  18. Most stores, except for mine who continue to say we can manifest anything but vinyl :sigh:

Has anyone picked up Fever Dream by Of Monsters and Men or Heart (S/T) by Heart? Wondering how they sound.

I skipped R.E.M. last time, didn't see it in my nearest store this time. Picked up Good Times (BN Exclusive) by Elvis, Concrete & Gold by Foo Fighters, Fly by Dixie Chicks, Always Tomorrow by Best Coast and Love Stuff (BN Exclusive) by Elle King.

Did you get your Pretenders for 50% off? The one I posted is in the regular bin, with no sticker.

The one I got for the 50% off last time around was the Alone LP. The pink and black cover. At 1of the Pines stores they had nothing stickered. I brought many to the cashier when it wasn't busy. A few scanned on sale last year. I think I got the Alone LP at a different store in Broward though. Yes, I wouldn't have bought it at regular price. But it was like $10 with the sale. The Hate For Sale title I bought on cd at RR earlier this year.

It's really frustrating when you encounter stores that say they won't manifest vinyl. The records are just sitting on the shelves gathering dust. I would ring up a store which has the vinyl you are interested in and pay for it over the phone. If you ring up a store that is in a state with no sales tax you would save a few pennies.

  25. Yeah, I’ve done that with good results. But it’s odd for sure, I even mentioned you (not your name, just that an employee in another store said it can be done) to them saying can be done! They used the cliche ‘my manager says we can’t’ response.
