Not Brexit related but...

I wasn't aware of the £15 VAT threshold in UK being removed. How did I miss that one? Is it January 1st or July 1st as I've seen both dates quoted? If it is January 1st, does that mean that two LPs I bought from Deepdiscount.com in USA for delivery to UK under £15 will now have VAT and admin fees added by Royal Mail? They got delivered by Hermes last time! Or because they were purchased before Jan 1st am I still okay???

 

Here's my answer! It's already gone...so no £15 vat free import threshold to UK. They sneaked that one in didn't they?

Below is a screenshot from HMRC..the bottom paragraph casually mentions in passing that the £15 LVCR has been removed! Bugger

 

I don't think so. Quoted from the European Commission site:

From 1 January 2021 the existing VAT exemption for goods up to 22 € will disappear. In order to allow VAT to be levied, all imports into the EU will have to be declared at the border using an electronic customs declaration.

It's definitely 1st of January for imports into UK, whether from EU, USA or anywhere. The £15 LVCR has been removed. I just looked it up on HMRC and posted a screenshot above. I just tried to repurchase an LP from deep discount for $7 plus postage..... normally VAT free...now 20% added. I think HMRC have just been lazy and made all imports to UK subject to VAT now.

But depending on where members live, knowing the changes in VAT/postage/handling charges will help them to determine whether a posted deal is going to be worthwhile, or not. Pushing that sort of information off to a separate thread somewhere likely won't help those who are actively watching this thread.

I hadn’t realised the current situation is temporary. Like you, I’m a Prime member and I’ve been taking advantage of the lower prices on items under £22.

What happens on 31st July now? Will it not just mean that VAT will be added at 21 or 23% as happens with anything over £22 at the moment? So in reality just a 1 or 2% increase?

 

I think from July the vendor charges the VAT on the sale (ie no more exemption for < 22€ )

 

I ordered this 2 days ago when I saw your post and it arrived this morning!! Unbelievable as orders from Amazon have slowed down a lot since Christmas.

But I’m well chuffed. Remastered on 180g vinyl (though honestly it feels heavier than the other 180g discs I have for some reason) plus the extra disc of studio outtakes. All for under €17 delivered. How could you not??
