I doubt you would have to send it back if they refunded money and took hit bc they thought it was lost.
I have received many incorrect records from Amazon. It is a common affliction. But they always make it right. BTW, what color are those snow pants?
Not as entertaining as some people's anecdotes, but a while back, I ordered Eric Clapton's self-titled album and got a Snowy White greatest hits CD instead. They refunded me and told me to keep it -- I need to give that disc a spin, now that I think about it.

I ordered a four LP Simple Minds live set, and got an old De la Soul album instead Went to UPS and returned it, and got...the same De La Soul album again. I told them I wasn't going back to UP S is a pandemic, so they gave me the De La Soul for free. Still need the Simple Minds though.
Amazon asks you to return a refunded item if it ever gets delivered. Whether you do is an internal discussion for you.
Not always. I think it depends on how inexpensive the item is. I've had them tell me to keep/trash the item. It seems like Amazon services different accounts differently, though (as we know, they have banned some accounts due to excessive returns), so maybe I'm just in a group where they don't always ask for a return. The funniest return they did ever request, though, was an alarm clock that was not in the Warehouse condition stated -- it was so damaged that it didn't even work and there's no way they could sell it to anyone. I'm not sure why they asked for that back as it seemed like a waste of their money on return shipping.
Well, yeah, if you are returning an item for a defect, they sometimes let you keep it. Not always, and usually only on a low-value item. But if you get a refund because an item didn't arrive (lost in transit), they generally tell you "please return it if you subsequently receive it."
Because they can send it back to the vendor for a full refund on their part. But even it they don't ask for an item back, they'll still withhold the payment to the vendor as a returned item.
Yes, this. Also depends on Amazon’s contract with the specific vendor. Some of them want the item back, some of them don’t. Amazon just does what they need to do based on all of that. In no way, shape, or form does Amazon take it in the pants on returns. Someone else is always left holding the bag on that unless it was shipped by Amazon and lost in transit.
I ordered the Bobbie Gentry Delta Sweete 2LP and got the Beatles 1 instead. I notified Amazon and they sent a replacement, and again, it is Beatles 1. Now I have two copies of the Beatles 1 and no Bobbie Gentry. For the heck of it, I opened the second Beatles 1 and gave it a listen. Didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would, although it is a nice package. I prefer hearing their music by album.
When it happened to me, I got no notification to return items. One of them came across from UK, so this is not true all the time what you posted.
