Looks like Craft Recordings are planning some kind of One-Step releases. Craft Recordings To Launch Exclusive "Small Batch" LP Series Wonder what their "their most revered recordings" are? I hope these will be available internationally.
I’ll definitely keep an eye on this. I’ve been pretty happy with the Craft Recordings I’ve purchased to date. The price point will be interesting. I’m guessing they’d want to undercut the UD1S price. Hope so. We’ll see.
I'm really excited about the potential for this. I was reviewing their catalogue this afternoon and there's quite a few records there that will be stellar one steps.
Maybe Kenny Dorham - Quiet Kenny, that's been seen on a few RSD2020 lists as coming from Craft Recordings, but never got released.
These could be good if the can get tapes and do AAA releases for titles that were recorded and mixed in analog. Isn't Craft Recordings affiliated with Analog Spark?
Craft Recordings is an in-house label of Concord Group, the successor to the older Fantasy label group. They definitely have access to the tapes for Prestige albums if any still exist.
Charlie Brown Christmas as a one step would be cheaper than the most recent AAA version even, and by a lot...
I meant it more in the sense that if any tapes exist for a specific Prestige album, Concord would be the one to have it. They clearly still have quite a few, if not most of them. This series could be quite exciting.
If they do that, you'll know that it's a garbage marketing play. there's nothing you can do to those big star masters to make them sound particularly good. They are what they are.
Depends if they're using the common "one step" as we know it or of that's a tentative name. I don't see craft selling $125 boxes, but I could be wrong. $55-75 seems more likely as they don't nessicarily have the reputation to charge what Mofi and others do.
If CCR isn't among the first batch of one steps from these guys, I'll be shocked. And, God knows, we definitely need another reissue of those CCR albums. There haven't been there enough. Craft / fantasy/milestone /prestige/stax/concord/etcetera has access to a huge vault of masters for good albums that have never been given a proper audiophile treatment. Let's hope they focus on those, and not just on the obvious suspects done yet again. Maybe we'll finally get a one step audiophile pressing of Sounds of Le Mans, from the original mono masters.
Saw this today and got excited. Craft have been releasing some really nice albums lately. Really interested to see where they go with this.
