Boz Scaggs - S/T with superb Muscle Shoals (including Duane Allman) backing. IMO his career highlight by any number of streets
THE BEACH BOYS SUMMER DAYS (AND SUMMER NIGHTS!!) 2015 stereo remix from the Analogue Productions SACD
Don’t listen to classical music that often, but put on Sir Adrian Boult conducting Symphonies Fantastique by Berlioz and, for reasons probably not unconnected to lockdown combined with lousy weather, decided to go through the rest of my Sirs. Sir Doulas Quintet - The Best of. Love the sound of Augie Myers’ organ Then Sir Joe Quartermain & Free Soul. Only the third or forth listening, but some of it’s really growing on me. Followed with alphabetical inevitability by Sir John Betjeman - Betjeman’s Banana Blush. Most of the poems thereon concern sex in some way or another, usually with a liberal helping of guilt thrown in for good measure. No wonder he was Poet Laureate. Finally, and currently playing, Sir Lord Baltimore- Kingdom Come. May not get all the way through this one
Roots 1975 South African album recently reissued by Frederiksberg Records. They do a great job with reissues, and this one is no exception. Frederiksberg Records is proud to announce the first ever reissue of the self-titled debut of 1970s South African jazz ensemble Roots. Blending jazz and funk with signature South African motifs, Roots was led by the master saxophonist and living repository of the story of jazz in South Africa, Barney Rachabane.
Morning of the Earth (1971) - the soundtrack from the classic Australian surfing movie. Obtained a copy of the movie about 10 years ago, which my buddies and I really got into as a fun 70s curio of sorts; A few years later, I purchased the soundtrack from Amazon. Haven't listened to in some time, just cued it up. There are some very mild (and I do emphasize mild) similarities in both style and production to the 70s era output of the band Spirit on display here (thinking of songs like "Mr. Skin" or "Animal Zoo" from the 12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus album) Fairly certain all performers are Aussies or Kiwis. As far as I can tell, the music itself is not surfing-related, but merely period-era background music for the film. Standout tracks include: • Morning of the Earth - G.Wayne Thomas • I'll Be Alright - Terry Hannagan • John J. Francis - Simple Ben • Dream Chant - The Ticket • Brian Cadd - Sure Feels Good
J Geils - Bloodshot Stones - Some Girls Aerosmith - toys in the attic Billy Joel - the stranger all on licorice pizza!
