Jimi Hendrix, previously a low salaried sideman to Little Richard and Isley Brothers and others on the Chitlin Circuit, becomes the highest paid performer in the US (1969).

 

Joe Tex's "You Keep Her", which is about how James Brown took Joe Tex's wife and, when he was done with her, told him he could have her back.

In response, Joe Tex practically invents the diss track against James.

 

Perhaps naming your new band as such when your lead singer blows you off to form a new collaboration

 

Lemmy claimed he shagged the "old ladies" of everyone in Hawkwind after they kicked him out.

It has often been speculated that the band's name referred to Hook seeking revenge on Bernard Sumner for the latter's formation of the band Electronic with Johnny Marr. In fact, the name came from the word Revenge emblazoned on a leather jacket worn by George Michael in the video for his hit song, "Faith".

 

The best form of revenge is success, and there are plenty of bands who had their backs against the wall, and had to release a successful album, or they were done ....
And ended up having blockbuster success.

 

duran duran took "notorious" to number 2 in the states (and charted highly world-wide) with a shot towards andy taylor in the lyrics.

given that he strung them along by setting himself up in los angeles with a new band and couldn't be bothered to be straightforward with them and quit/leave, the duran duran trio of simon lebon/nick rhodes/john taylor surely enjoyed proving that they could and would successfully go forward without him.

I assume you're referring to AMLOR onwards Floyd and not 1968-72?

 

Unfortunately Revenge was awful and the album bombed. So not a very successful revenge...

 

And of course forming a band that wound up being bigger than Hawkwind ever was.

 

Strawberry Alarm Clock were a psychedelic band from LA, had a hit with “Incense And Peppermints”. Two outside writers were credited, despite being at least partly based on an instrumental written by two of the band-members.

One of those band members was Ed King, who went on to play with Skynyrd and co-write several of their most popular songs, most notably “Sweet Home Alabama”, which has almost certainly made more money than “Incense” ever did.

The Records' "Starry Eyes" was written as retaliation against a former manager who stole from the band.

Producer Mitch Miller had Frank Sinatra record a bunch of goofy tunes when Sinatra's popularity had declined towards the end of his Columbia Records contract in 1951-52 (see below).

After Sinatra made a big comeback a few years later, he bumped into Miller again -- either in Vegas or at an award ceremony, depending on what source you believe. Miller went to shake Sinatra's hand, and Sinatra responded with "Eff you -- keep walking."
