Yeah, as it’s just via Warner’s service, who knows - their distro is shocking.

Semi-related - Is $399 a good price for the 2014 Rhino CD box set of The Monkees ?

I would personally say a hard no. The set was $60 originally, £100 is where I personally cap out on these things, and that's at a huge push.

The 1986 Rhino LP of the debut is a weird mishmash of stereo, mono, original mixes and remixes. This is the first time they've gone back and cut an LP from the original stereo masters since 1966, and if Andrew's hype is to be believed (and he never seems to let us down), this will be the best this album's ever sounded, for what it's worth.

Let's be real, Kevin Gray never lets us down if he has the sources to work with. Not owning a stereo copy of the debut, I'm very excited for this.

As for LP2, I'm curious about each track:

    1. The Monkees (Radio Spot) - Previously Unreleased

      - Does anyone know which spot this is likely to be?
    2. (Theme From) The Monkees [Mono TV Version] - Previously Unavailable On Vinyl
    3. This Just Doesn't Seem To Be My Day [Mono TV Version] - Previously Unavailable On Vinyl
    4. All The King's Horses [Mono TV Version] - Previously Unavailable On Vinyl
    5. I Wanna Be Free (Fast Version) [Mono TV Version] - Previously Unavailable On Vinyl
    6. You Just May Be The One [Mono TV Version] - Previously Unavailable On Vinyl
    7. Take A Giant Step [Mono TV Version] - Previously Unavailable On Vinyl
    8. (Theme From) The Monkees [Alternate Version] - Previously Unavailable On Vinyl
    9. Saturday's Child [Mono TV Version] - Previously Unavailable On Vinyl

      - I wonder if there's been any improved sources on these TV Mixes since the 2014 set - especially ATKH without a fading end

    10. I Don't Think You Know Me [2014 Remix] - Previously Unreleased

      - Micky vocal I'm guessing, curious it's a 2014 remix not from the box set?

    11. So Goes Love [2020 Remix] - Previously Unreleased

      - Guessing the double tracked version, as most likely accurate to 1966.

    12. I Can't Get Her Off My Mind [2014 Remix] - Previously Unreleased

      - The previous mix felt fine to me, so we shall see

    13. (I Prithee) Do Not Ask For Love [2020 Remix] - Previously Unreleased

      - Again, I'm assuming Davy, but without so much Micky to back him up?

    14. I Wanna Be Free (Demo) [Alternate Version] - Previously Unreleased

      - How alternate from the ones on the box set? Time will tell...

Weren't the tv versions lifted from the show's mag tracks when the films were being transferred in 2015-ish? I was led to believe that every unique and intact audio mix from those shows was harvested at that time.

Every time I watch a show from that Blu-ray set, like the Christmas Show a few weeks ago, I am in awe of how good the image and sound is. Colorful, never over saturated image and robust, punchy audio with real dynamic range. Though the dvds were passable back in the day, I sure don't miss that muddy, default 5.1 audio "mixup" that plagued every episode. I still get a laugh when someone posts a complete episode to YouTube and it has that over-processed, hissy, crackly, reverbed soundtrack, always somewhere within the 6-10KHZ range. Messy!

I would personally say that every other box set is worth every penny...except for the debut...

You really must want to read that story I told you about in a different thread, the one about Nesmith counting the photos as they were being shot, and how he was counting on the cover shot. ;) :)

And I want the Sessions CD because I want to listen to banter and I enjoy listening to him work as a producer ;)

These were pushed back to May and the live Zevon which was up next and supposed to be here in Feb is now set for an April release.

Also for those who missed out, Rough Trade US (in Brooklyn NY) is taking some preorders for the yellow vinyl. Ive gotten some previous limited color ROG records from them so i'm assuming ROG gives them a handful to sell in their allotment. They must have just put this listing up recently as it has the new release date where the black vinyl preorder on the site still lists the old one. Anyhow they don't charge until item ships.

Not at all shocked, but nice to have a concrete date at least. Probably the longest pre-order period I've ever put money down for!

Why doesn’t the yellow say 2lp tho? I know it is but why doesn’t it say it on rough trade’s website?

They do that sometimes. There is no 1 lp yellow or any 1lp version of the ROG being made so it was just an error by the person who created the listing

All I know is that the vinyl I ordered immediately when it was put on sale had better be Yellow.
