CD 8 from 8 CD box “A Woman’s Work” from Joelle Leandre duets with Zlatko Kaucic, Agusti Fernandez & Evan Parker Opening 18 minute piece with the drummer is spectacular of all the great box sets from Not Two Records released over the past 12 to 15 years this one sits nicely alongside the 4 great Barry Guy boxes - but focuses mostly on duos (5 of the discs) with a trio, solo & the great quartet with the above 4 grand masters. sound quality is perfect and the improvising is otherworldly throughout. Leandre NEVER fails to deliver. She is filled with an endless imagination on the double bass. for @Archtop
I've fallen incredibly far behind with some company over the last two weeks, but will catch up through this week and next weekend. That's why older 'likes' are pinking on the tin roofs of your posting domes like pattering rain. Is there a mix that isn’t muddy? I think that was an intentional creative choice that’s in the master tape. I’m not one to criticize Bob but it sounds like a fourth gen high speed dub that someone hit the Dolby NR button to try and clean up. I would prefer a cleaner presentation of the instruments and vocals. I’ve looked for it and I don’t think it’s there.
Neil Young Are You Passionate? Speaking of NYA this album was recently added, although the big draw there at the moment is 51 newly added outtakes, demos and singles.
For some reason I've never done a deep dive into Krautrock. I feel like I'm getting close to giving it a concerted effort, because I've enjoyed almost everything I've heard so far. My exposure has been mostly Can and Neu! to this point, along with some other scattered artists.
The remix has more clarity, but it lacks the punch of the original. It's true, though, that it's not a pristine recording.
German Oak - Down in the Bunker 1972, private press Now-Again Records 3xCD reissue I picked this up a few years ago through the Now-Again subscription and have listened to it a few times. Spaced out jams, reminds me a little of early Pink Floyd. Kind of dark, spooky atmosphere that would work well in a horror movie. Pretty awesome.
More than anything I find it interesting as to why they did it that way. I would speculate that since this was the first album with horns and backup singers they wanted to lower the volume or cut off some high end to blend with his vocals? That or they were going for a “sounds like” idea. As in, “sounds like the AM radio on a 65 Ford galaxy.” I do think Bob worked very hard on all his albums and it was intentional if not arduous to get it to sound like it does. I can dig it for what it is but it’s certainly not a recording that responds well to anything more than moderate volume levels.

I think this is how it goes related to Oh Sees: Dwyer - mastermind Murray - former drummer Caulkins - saxophone - has played on some of their albums, not sure if he was a full time member Dolas - keyboards - joined the band a few years ago Coates - bass - don't think he's connected with the band

He popped in this morning to say he’d been busy with guests; hopefully there will be more of his multi-album posts with commentary coming soon!

Gaucho. Oddly enough, the juxtaposition of NFL conference championship games on mute and sequential Steely Dan albums seems to working. Maybe it’s a poetry in motion type of thing.
