Now again with pictures New Phonostage New Cartrigde New CD-player New ( used) carpet New basstrap ( behind the bass, inside the Ikea shelf retired bass speaker, used now as another basstrap and table for the vinyl-cleaner
I take it you're NOT in Miami? Wow, nice setup, esp for a 'secondary' rig. EDIT: Sorry, I do see you're in CT and have posted your main rig pix. Nice too!
Back when I was using the diagonal setup I became obsessed with getting the speakers perfectly symmetrical. My final solution was to measure an exact distance from the corner, mark the base board, and attach a piece of string to the spot with a thumbtack. With the string in place, it was easy to find the perfect symmetry. You can see the string in this old pic:
Had a pair of AR3a's just sitting around unused, and needed a good workout so decided to risk life and limb by going bananas! Voila! Above was posted yesterday. I go back and forth with stacking. Thought I'd try it with speakers pretty high of the ground. Took a little effort for my soon to be 64 year old body, but all in a day's workout. And it sounds pretty great, too. Hopefully the big one(earthquake) stays away for at least a few more days.
Thank looks awesome! Congrats on all the new gear I've been curious about that Electrocompanient CD player for years never heard one.
I believe the expression from my retail days was "stack em high and watch em fly!" However in your case I think "go big or go home" is more apt love the stacking.
Fwiw....i went just a little off 45 degrees(i know your engineering brain noticed it in my pics lol)any frequency irregularities will be cut in half...both speakers won't share the same problem...if there are any.I think the logic checks out ...ymmv obviously
I utilized 1.5" Iron Pipe, had it cut and threaded where I purchased it. The pipe and the Cast Fittings added up to more than the all the other materials combined. But, I want the strength to hold up the loaded weight of the Rack with approx. 450 LP's.
Now that is what I call a secondary rig! Wait no it's not it's a primary rig for almost anyone! Love both your setups and stay warm.
Hello DaveyF, I think that from a certain age on the best time to improve your stereo setup is "now" , and what made it even more seductive was the fact that I have gotten an irresistible offer from my retailer. I suppose that I have now reached the final system according to room size and budget ( only a few room treatment devices are planned to be installed, which is no budget problem as they are all DIY ). Congrats to Your system which is something final too as I presume ! Good Luck, Mr.Sign
your setup looks great, i didn't notice at all that it was off a little. im sure a little off a perfect 45 will sound great. its that dumb new laser measure has got me obsessing
Just an FYI, I am not talking about your system in my prior post. Instead relating to the difficulty with posting pictures on this site ( which is why it is ironic given the timing of my points in prior posts about this issue!), as you apparently ran into with your post that I posted.
The project is complete and everything is moved in..... Last post(s) on this I promise .... just very proud of my old friend Gary's attention to detail and creative thought....at each "contact" point of the hidden drawer is a small sliver of wenge....so no matter what angle you see the table from the "shadow" looks identical
I really don't know how important symmetry is, I've never been a believer. When I belonged to an audio club it was about a 50/50 split.
I don't know either, but I can't stand looking at my speakers and feeling one of them has more toe-in than the other, or one is further from my seat. OCD is not normally in my nature, but I'm a fanatic about symmetry here.
