That is a fine Trout but I think the one with Gilels is really hot.

Originally issued on Carlton, then reissued on Alto in 2012, these tracks are well done.

Great music! One cannot have too many recordings of Debussy piano works.

I agree. Each player brings something different.

This seems to be a popular coupling. I got this one recently:

I haven't heard the Gilels, but I have enjoyed almost everything I have heard by him.

In the past, I haven't warmed to Hamelin's playing, but given your recommendation, the fact that I don't own anyone playing those works and that gorgeous cover, I will need to keep an eye out for this one.

    Good points!

On the other hand, Gould's playing of these French Suites comes across (to me), as that of an energetic young man, so in that respect anyway, I feel it fits.

Well, since we're talking about it...

Going on the turntable is Bach: The French Suites, Nos. 1 - 4, played by Glenn Gould.

    Columbia Masterworks LP / 1973

Typical hat, long coat, and thick gloves stuffed in the pocket... but one of the rare instances of playing the piano using a metal folding chair!

On the turntable: Brahms Piano Pieces, Op. 76, and Fantasias, Op. 116. Julius Katchen.
I really love most of Katchen's interpretations of Brahms. Such passionate playing! I collected his LPs back in the '70s where I could find them -- some on the full-price London label (like the one below) and some on the budget reissue London STS (Stereo Treasury Series) label.
