Wow...that's a good one. The mono White Album on Japanese, see-thru red vinyl. Yes, my friend...quite a good one. But I have to ask...were the post Pepper pressings of this series on Odeon or Apple?
...*that* high ended, huh? That's one of the very few EAS's I don't have. I was actually keeping an eye out for that one. Is it worse than the EAS Rubber Soul..??
LABEL: Black EMI Odeon. The White Album was the last in the series, as the remaining Fabs albums were only released in Stereo (and I'm almost, almost positive that MMT was not part of the 1982 or 1986 Red Wax Mono series').
The ones I find truly horrible are Rubber Soul, and the two which feature the cover of the U.S. "Second Album" which would be The Second Album itself and Long Tall Sally. Painfully high ended to the point of distortion in spots. Truth be told, I'm keeping them all for posterity (the post Rubber Soul ones get increasingly better even though the "S" sibilance on Revolver gets to me at times).
I can nay want LP’s that I am going to play. If I find a better version, I sell the inferior one. Too much clutter
I get that..even I have my limits to be honest. I had three Beatle Lp's on the red/orange Parlophone label from Venezuala...literally sounded like they were mastered from worn vinyl copies. In the garbage they went. I didn't even want to saddle any of my used record stores with them.
I just checked. I still have the entire AP Japan set. Minty, all with OBI’s. I need to list those LP’s here!
Well, great as the 2014 set is, it seems to have gotten at least as expensive as the Japan red monos, which are extremely quiet (unless scratched, like my '82 PPM), and the translucent color is just beautiful. There's also the issue of the 2014 being cut at lower volume, but tastes will vary on that point.
I j ust think the tapes, the control and the mindset that went into the current box has to be mikes better then what happened with the Red mono’s...
It may be beyond you, but it's not beyond Geoff Emerick who said that the sound of the Japanese 1982 Red Wax Mono pressing is “Spot On.” But what does he know?
All the red monos, both '82 and '86, were on Odeon labels. Also the '82 EAS blue box. Apple licensing was in disarray in the '80's, as I understand it, which would explain why the '79 Japanese blue box is Apple labels, and not the '82.
I have a few Japanese pressings on Odeon from the 80's including "The Beatles Box" 8 LP set. Quite an improvement from the shrilly 70's Apple pressings.
A Hard Day's Night in the EAS series was the only Japanese Beatles album I ever owned. Great pressing quality but mastered very bright. Not a good listen.
The "S's" in And I Love Her are murderous on that pressing. And yet, when "we" were buying them in the 70's we all thought that super high end was a great thing.
The only thing that impressed me about thst pressing was that the sibilance in that was present in my UK tube-cut pressing on I'm Happy Just To Dance With You was gone. However that was about it.
