Geez. Just when I think I could not care less about the Rock and Roll hall of Fame, and they go and produce a list like that.

    Sheesh.

Kate most certainly deserves it as does Iron Maiden

She is in as a songwriter. This is a nomination for the artist category.

Tina Turner is also an inductee already as half of Ike & Tina Turner.

I think this is the first time that Chaka Khan is nominated as a solo artist? I seem to recall it being Rufus featuring Chaka Khan in the past.

Fela Kuti is one of the greatest artists/musicians of the 20th century but the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame? If he's inducted then Ravi Shankar also needs to be. Where does it end?

The Hall is slowly belatedly expanding its scope beyond American and British artists. Have any Caribbean/African musicians gotten in since Bob Marley in 1994?

RATM made the first ballot this year. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them go all of the way.

Iron Maiden with this year's "See we can nominate a metal band, but they have no chance at getting in" award (See Motorhead last year, Judas Priest before that, etc.).

I love Iron Maiden, but really, Judas Priest should be in before them.

Be serious - you can't expect a rock band to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame when you have other candidates like LLCoolJ, JayZ, and Dionne Warwick on the list!

I really don't care about the HOF, but how can Todd Rundgren not have been selected before?

The smaller subgenre and radio format of Rock is only one part of Rock and Roll’s rich musical tapestry. If anything, rock bands are over represented.

Agreed. Would it kill them to put in a chunk of artists from the same genre all at once? Maybe a sub-genre spotlight type of deal.

Definitely Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, Carole King, Kate Bush before Mary J. Blige. If MJB gets in before these other icons, then the RRHOF is no better than the corrupt Grammys.

Or have standing categories that would get them in more quickly. Breaking Rock and Roll out by genre/subgenre would insure a wide variety of inductees every year AND provide more clarity about what the Hall sees as being under the inclusive umbrella of Rock and Roll.

Of course. In fact, as far as I can see, anything and everything qualifies to be part of the "tapestry" of the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame". Which is precisely why I find it a repugnant, irrelevant, marketing exercise and excuse for a party.

But worry not - I really don't have anything to add to this topic beyond that, so will take my bow for others who feel differently to enjoy. ;)

Mary J. Blige is largely credited for the fusion of R&B and Hip Hop that has dominated popular music for almost thirty years now. I’m surprised it’s taken this long for her to make the ballot.
