Great album... such a variety of tracks.... Every song sounds different... from '39 to The Prophet Song, Bohemian Rhapsody to Love Of My Life.
    Definitely NO fillers!

I also really like QUEEN II.. some masterpieces on that one.

    I voted 4/5 for opera.

    Why?

I like sheer heart attack more. That's masterpiece for me:)

5/5. A Night at the Opera and A Day at the Races together make up Queen's peak. There are lots of good songs elsewhere, but no other album is as consistently strong as these two (though The Game comes fairly close).

Hmm, just looked at the track listing to refresh my memory---Seaside Rendezvous was one of those typical throwaway time wasters that they threw on every album. Good Company I don't remember as being very good. Everything else was SOLID.

I'd give this album a 9 out of 10 on the Queen scale.

I thought DATR had 3 or 4 good tracks the rest were total snoozers.

4/5 Sheer Heart Attack is my favourite Queen album, followed by Queen II. Both of those would get 5/5 from me. ANATO is actually my 2nd least-favourite album by Queen from the 70's, with only Jazz ranking lower.

I always wonder with comments like this if one likes much in the vein of those sorts of songs. For example, are there many things that are stylistically kind of in the vein of "Seaside Rendezvous" that you do like by other artists? For example, are you a fan of Paul McCartney/Wings' "You've Gave Me the Answer" or Bette Midler's "Marahuana" or Frank Zappa's "Planet of My Dreams" or anything in that vein?

Not really, I like heavier guitar-oriented music in general so I lean towards liking that side of Queen's catalogue more than anything else. They were a jekyll and hyde band for me in that way. I'm much more of an Ogre Battle/Brighton Rock Queen fan than say Love of My Life or their poppier stuff.

I can appreciate some of it but I'm always going to prefer the bone-crunching tone of Brian May dominated songs more than anything else by them.

ANATO has better highs IMO, but overall I prefer ADATR probably!

Andy Smith .....Like a good pinch of snuff......

All Queen albums had redeeming features but only the first four were 100% spectacular. Diminishing returns after that I’m afraid. For me only NOTW came close.

Right. So it's definitely understandable that you're not going to dig something like "Seaside Rendezvous"--that sort of music isn't your bag, really.

Yeah I don't think there is a Queen album where I liked every single song. The 1st album came close, and I rate ANATO pretty high. Most albums I liked more songs than I disliked with the exception of ADATR and Queen 2. I never heard anything past 1984 so I couldn't comment on that stuff.

Not to troll but what if I thought it only deserved a 2/5? I gave it a 4/5. Queens rock masterpiece is Sheer Heart Attack. Their pop masterpiece is The Game.

Giving one's honest opinion without the intent of angering anyone is never trolling my friend, don't worry.

I like SHA too but I think the middle of side 2 kinda lets it down. Otherwise it's pretty stellar.

    It simply wasn’t their forte.

I agree, I'm a big Zep fan. Have a full set of original LPs. I just don't think they fully deserve the reverence they get sometimes.

Good to see A Day At The Races get some love.
That’s their 70’s ‘pop’ album and it’s one of the albums I keep returning to the most.

Ya I very much enjoy those types of songs. Sometimes called granny music haha. My favorite Queen songs however are "The Prophet's Song" and "March of the Black Queen." But guess which comes in at #3? Yep, "The Ferry-Feller's Master Stroke." :D

The only song on A Night At The Opera that I don't like is "I'm In Love With My Car."

Masterpiece. Although not as much a masterpiece as the second album :)
