Not a lot posts or threads about loves stories/romances in movies. Lots of interest in love songs on the Music Corner section of the forum and figured I'd start one over here. I'll start it off with one of my favorites, the 1955 classic Marty. I really connect and relate to his character, and his defining quote is so memorable: "You don't get to be good-hearted by accident... If you get kicked around long enough you get to be a real professor of pain." I see a lot of elements of this film in later "love stories," such as the relationship with Rocky and Adrian (in the first Rocky film), John Candy and Ally Sheedy in Only The Lonely, and others. This type of character development and storyline never fails to capture my interest.
some that come to mind: Ghost (1990) Like Crazy (2011) Perfect Sense (2011) Last Tango in Paris (1972) Indecent Proposal (1993) Always (1989) Urban Cowboy (1980) Starman (1984) Love & Other Drugs (2010) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) The English Patient (1996) Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011)
Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley. I could keep watching it forever. "You have bewitched me, mind, body and soul."
One of my favorites too! I've seen it a bunch of times, and probably my favorite Austen film adaptation. The instrumental soundtrack is also perfect. My favorite line: [After Lizzy - to her own surprise - has agreed to dance with Mr. Darcy] Elizabeth Bennet: Did I just agree to dance with Mr. Darcy? Charlotte Lucas: I daresay you will find him to be very amiable. Elizabeth Bennet: That would be most inconvenient since I have sworn to loathe him for all eternity.
George Segal in Blume In Love (1973). Dude tries to keep his marriage together, despite being in the divorce law profession, and capable of seeing the worst of relationships...except for his own. Also the only "chick flick" I ever really respected, Serendipity (2001). Can't tell you why; it's got the cliche "wedding in New York", and the race to the finish...but the "awww, maaan-!" coincidences and the Nick Drake climax puts it in the pocket for me. Also, Kate Beckinsale, because...Kate Beckinsale (any guy who commits to taking his sweetie to a rom-com as a favor, still deserves something for his efforts ).
