Some cheap blu rays - Up in Smoke $7.50 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079F9NCM6 Roger Rabbit $5.99 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AO686MY
Thanks for this; just ordered. Not familiar with his music but I really like the Omnivore compilation and Gladiators lps I got last year. The Byles sounds "rootsy" so I bet I will like it too.
I actually picked up Up In Smoke on DVD about 2-3 months ago for $2.49!! Was even better now watching it so many years later. The commentary on it was pretty inarresting too.
Considering the fact that the cinematography for Up in Smoke is considered among the best ever for a film, it's probably good to wait.
Junior Byles - Rasta No Pickpocket - $10.88 Received and spun once, great recording. I really like it. Recommended. It's up to $11 & change now, but totally worth that IMO. My copy came in a plastic envelope with no protection and predictably had a bent corner. Also needs a trip through the vinyl flat. It's a nice pressing but not quite flat. I got a $5 refund from Amazon and will keep it.
As long as you consume some of that bud they drove in from Mexico while you watch it it beats Citizen Kane in every way!
Mine also came in a white plastic Amazon bag. Fortunately, someone at Amazon placed it in a frustration free mailer before putting it in the bag. What’s crazy is that they didn’t actually place the record under the two flaps inside the mailer, which would secure the record before folding it over and sealing the flap. Instead they just slid the record into the middle of the mailer. So when I opened the envelope and slid out the mailer, the record just slid right out. Lucky for me my ninja reflexes grabbed it before it hit the floor.
This arrived today—it’s the 150 gm standard black version. EDIT: sounds fantastic though just in case there was any doubt on that front.
The extra weight always feels nice but according to a source we all respect it adds zero to sound quality. That knowledge has saved me a few bucks.
Indeed. It’s nice to see the the 180 gram marketing scam is dying down a bit in the past five years. I have 100 gram (if even that) RCA Dynaflex records from the early ‘70s that sound amazing.
Years ago when Classic was doing reissues of The Who they were pressed on both heavy grade and 140gram. On my set up I never discerned any difference - both versions sounded fantastic!
I'd welcome an end to this trend. When you have hundreds of records and you need to move them or sort them, that weight REALLY adds up!
Madeline Kenney - Sucker's Lunch (vinyl): $9.76 https://www.amazon.com/Suckers-Lunch-Madeline-Kenney/dp/B088LH21N3/ Daniel Avery - Love + Light (clear vinyl): $11.10 https://www.amazon.com/Light-Limited-Milky-Clear-Vinyl/dp/B08FP3SQNC/ Bing & Ruth - Species (2x vinyl): $11.96 https://www.amazon.com/Species-BING-RUTH/dp/B0874JFXQL/
The only thing heavyweight vinyl does is make the vinyl split through the seam so that you have a damaged cover by the time it arrives at your house
I guess in theory that's a possibility but I haven't had a single one do that (out of hundreds). I wonder how common that is? I did get a Fleetwood Mac 1969-1972 years box set that arrived like that but the records were all 140gr
Even Acoustic Sounds with all their shipping wizardry couldn’t get me The Best of Sam Cooke without the upper seam starting to crack.
