Thanks for remembering. The Julie London threads were recreated bigger and better. You can access them at this link.

PS I was forced to get my own site to store the pictures as I don't want to do this again.

I learned that many people despise Jimmy Page and Led Zeppelin.

Also, Iron Butterfly Heavy in mono is awesome.

Something about "Mammy" and the year 2021 just doesn't seem to gel.

This place has introduced me to the world of shoegaze and deep dive into all the 90s britpop I missed by living in the states. I now love My Bloodh Valentine and pulp.

Look at it this way. Without the Beatles you wouldn’t have passed the 25 million mark. At least not for another 20 years. God bless the Beatles.

Glad that you are now a shoegaze fan. But yes it was only because of business trips to the UK that I found out about them in the 90s. No internet at that time. In the US it was all grunge or Top 40 for understandable reasons. If you do vinyl though it is a very expensive hobby though as the recent reissues are almost all bad. Shoegaze still doesn't get much respect.

It got very little respect at the time in the UK. It might have been the cool thing for a short while in the early 90s, but some of the albums that are acclaimed and sought after now were unfairly ridiculed in the music press when they were released, especially Slowdive as they came along a bit late.

We've discussed this before, the Noble Nauga isn't for eating, instead they deserve to run free on the great wide open range.

Those "foods" were banned decades ago! :tsk:

I’ve never felt so at home on the internet. My impression of this community is that I could invite anyone over to sit on my couch and discuss music over a few drinks and it would be a fun night.

    Thank you Steve!

I joined back in the "save the Beatles catalog" days. Before shipping notices were a thing.

I’m sure someone else has mentioned it but the long running Bobby Whitlock thread was really special.

  18. Steve's work came on my radar with the Buddy Holly 'From The Original Master Tapes' CD a friend of mine bought back in 1985. I just could not believe how 1950's music could sound like it was recorded yesterday. 20-something years later I stumble upon this forum while researching some LP deadwax. What are the odds? So I would just like to say thank you to Steve & The Gorts for all your hard work & dedication.

The thread was great (though I confess I didn’t read every post) and it helped to inspire me to check out a band I only had a passing familiarity with. It’s been a revelation! I ended up seeing them live in concert and it probably wouldn’t have happened otherwise. Thank you!

80% of the members never make one post so statistically that means 20,000 members have posted nearly 100,000 times.

I’m proud to have created threads on the appreciation of Sir Harry Lauder (38 replies) and the appreciation of Hal Kemp (6 replies). That’s quality, not quantity, folks! Hours of entertainment there!

Also..... the knowledgeable, generous and patient Frank Sinatra experts in this Forum guided my transition from being an experienced Beatles/Dylan/Neil fan to being an obsessed and committed Sinatra fan in spring 2015. “Why try to change me now.”

You know who you are — thanks folks!

  24. Me too at exactly the same time! I couldn't bear Dylan's mauling of the Great American Songbook as filtered through Frank Sinatra but whilst I'd never been a fan of FS anyway this forum soon changed that along with Bob himself.

And still no-one knows what that triangle on Columbia records label is all about.
