Thanks for the link Brad. I've been a big fan of her early albums.

Truly one of the great singer-songwriters of all time, IMO. Her style is all her own.

I learned something new about her today regarding which part of Saskatchewan (where I once lived) she's from - turns out I was confusing the Piapot reserve where she's from with the town of Piapot. The former is in SE SK in the Qu'Appelle valley N by NE of Regina and the latter is SW near the Cypress hills and the larger town of Maple creek. Not that close together, assuming I've got it right now. Both named for a 19th century Cree chief.

Exactly right as she's a treasure to behold and this is music you just want to sit, enjoy a drink and really listen.

i remember watching this performance, when the academy awards were still something i was innerested in. i thought at the time, and still do, what an emotionally simple and stunning rendition in the midst of hollywood's self-congratulatory glitz.

I didn't know about her being 80, (Happy Birthday!) but I revisited my favourite album of hers the other day. Illuminations from 1969 was ahead of it's time with the use of electronics. A truly great album!
