Here's a great article documenting her life and wonderful career. Iconic Canadian singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie reminisces on an eventful eight decades
I learned something new about her today regarding which part of Saskatchewan (where I once lived) she's from - turns out I was confusing the Piapot reserve where she's from with the town of Piapot. The former is in SE SK in the Qu'Appelle valley N by NE of Regina and the latter is SW near the Cypress hills and the larger town of Maple creek. Not that close together, assuming I've got it right now. Both named for a 19th century Cree chief.

and many happy returns [i never knew she was a pisces] i've taken the liberty of uploading this very low quality video. it is as i received it. Buffy Sainte-Marie and Perry Como [very lo-fi] i hope it works k i gotta go clean the stove
i remember watching this performance, when the academy awards were still something i was innerested in. i thought at the time, and still do, what an emotionally simple and stunning rendition in the midst of hollywood's self-congratulatory glitz. Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes - Up Where We Belong
I didn't know about her being 80, (Happy Birthday!) but I revisited my favourite album of hers the other day. Illuminations from 1969 was ahead of it's time with the use of electronics. A truly great album!
