If I was gonna say Zappa, I would probably have to start with YCDTOSA, #'s 1, 3,4,5, & 6 (because #2 is all from the same couple of shows, so that barely counts). Then, Yerbouti, out of nostalgia.

    Monkees - Missing Links 2

Maybe the idea for this topic is to mention albums that were released as part of the main discography, not compilations of rarities, as this one is. But technically it fits the concept.

    Who's Next by The Who
They were gonna do their Lifehouse album, but it didn't work out, so the leftovers were put together in Who's Next
I'd also put Jimi Hendrix's Cry of Love and Rainbow Bridge against any of the stuff he released in his lifetime

Wilco's Schmilco material is from the same sessions that spawned Star Wars. Plus the 2nd album is much better IMHO.

Yeah one could say Chungas, Studio Tan, Sleep Dirt, Zoot Allures, MF Utopia and Them Or Us all have material reworked from earlier sessions and or outtakes from other albums. And then one could consider if Lather, Warts snd All, Crush All boxes and Chalk Pie were released as originally intended.

Yeah no not really these were all live compilations intended as their own product. Now some of the early Mothers stuff was intended to be release on the “History and Collected Improvisations..” was included on some of the sets but that was such a long distant concern that project had been scrapped for years.

    ~"Warmer"- Jeff Tweedy

To be honest I'd say "Warmer" is more of a very good, rather than great, album. These tracks were from the same sessions as "Warm", which is an absolutely great album!!!

For the record, while I certainly do dig "Schmilco" plenty (much more than "Warmer"), I personally prefer "Star Wars".

That those two albums were recorded simultaneously creates an amazingly intriguing situation with one of the greatest double albums that ever wasn't... fun to play around with mixing up the re-sequencing to make that double album.

I just spun this today. Really good stuff, some of it reminds me of Ole which I love.

My copy is on the neon Impulse label, but says KENDUN. I thought it sounded quite good.

Aside from Star of Bethlehem, what other album sessions are these songs cobbled from?

I’m a big fan of the original Byrds, so I was really excited when this vinyl album was released and then really happy when the CD was released with more tracks.

Two come to mind. Duane Eddy's Twangsville was his last one for RCA, and put together from outtakes - and the reason it works so well, I think, is that it's his only one for RCA that doesn't have a theme (Dance, Twist, Country etc) and so there's plenty of variety. And - maybe not great - but I've always liked The Rolling Stones' Metamorphosis.

They made a lot more money (and lost a whole lot more credibility) placing them between Bob Dylan songs on The Basement Tapes.

It could be argued that, as either of the Animals songs were actually recorded during the earlier sessions that developed into Wish You Were Here, they don't exactly qualify as 'leftovers'. The intention was always to record them for the following album which was why they continued to play them live even as WYWH was being readied for release.

The Missing Links series is basically albums that SHOULD have happened during the original era!
