I don't see Bare Trees though, just an "Image" icon. Maybe chill a bit.

It is the other way around :) : Frank asked Cal Schenkel to draw the cover entirely by hand as if it was a bootleg cover.
Cal wrote all the texts, and then added "He made me do it" next to "Cover by Cal Schenkel" just to let people now it was Frank's idea to have such a cheap cover without any actual drawing.

Frank only added the last sentence "Don't forget to register to vote" followed by the letters FZ himself. And you can see it's absolutely not the same handwriting than the rest of the cover.
So no, this cover was not made by Frank Zappa.
It really is Cal Schenkel's handwriting, as you can see in the booklet of 'Playground psychotics' or the many drawings Cal did on the web or for books.

Thanks for taking it positively. I sure didn't want to ruin your input. It could have been FZ's doing. It's such a "simple" cover.

Pretty sure Mayo Thompson uses his own photos on many album covers. Here's one I really like

Sorry, Datsun, this doesn't qualify for the thread. The photo is by famed photographer/filmmaker Les Blank.

But feel free to post one with a cover by Mayo Thompson if you know of one.

I'm a very big Brian Eno fan, but generally dislike the cover designs he's done. This might be the worst.

You're right. I didn't know that. I missed the credit.

The problem with the covers, is normally there is no credit. I'd guess Soldier Talk photos are by Mayo Thompson but I have no proof.

Look it's actually quite good if he took under 8 minutes to come up with it!

And drew the portrait that was used as the full size insert for 1975's "There's One In Every Crowd!"
