Yeah, every so often you have one wander across the country. I'm in Virginia...had one that came from NYC, went to NJ, then to a Michigan distribution center, then back to NJ before making it here. I'm assuming it went on the wrong truck.

The question of Discogs as a source is different than postal issues. A seller has no control over those issues.

The example I referenced above (sent to Iowa first) involved the USPS, but not Discogs.

The worst postal issue I ever had was a Chuck Berry set that I purchased last year during the height of the pandemic. I purchased it from a seller in Manhattan; I live about an hour away in NW NJ, near Morristown. It sat for about four weeks in Jersey City, then I see it’s out for delivery, then it says it’s out for delivery in some other town in NJ, then it’s on its way back to Jersey City, and then it’s on its way to Tampa. After it hit Tampa, it was re-routed back to NJ and I had it a week later. Quite unbelievable.

The same is known to happen in a suburban Detroit location, Allendale, I want to say...

I received the CD yesterday. 15 days to move from Alberta to Ontario. It's the slowest national service I've ever experienced. In any event, I commented on the disc in this thread for anyone who might be interested.

I’m a low volume Ontario based Ebay seller (average of two or three sales a day), and during the pandemic, fifteen days to Western Canada or the Atlantic provinces has been about average. During December the postal service was so slow that I actually shut down my EBay store for several weeks. At the time of shipping, I email each purchaser with an explanation that because of the pandemic related disruptions being experienced by the postal service, it may take significantly longer than the pre-pandemic norm for their purchase to arrive.

Why oh why do so many sellers on Discogs ignore a message from a potential buyer asking for confirmation that an advertised item is the exact release that is being sought? This drives me mad. The more times I am ignored the more I simply don't trust the listings.

That's a sign that you definitely don't want to do business with them.

 Or the seller that is a Canadian who has a posted cost of $12 US. and says in his ad "Canada contact for shipping charges" and ignores my requests for a quote.

FWIW, that CD I ordered that I mentioned back on page 1 took 12 days to arrive from Germany. The CD and insert themselves were as he described them too.

That particular seller said in his profile that sometimes his shipments don't go out right away, but that definitely wasn't the case with my order. He sent it out a couple days after I ordered it, it took about five days for to show up (i.e. get scanned) in the U.S., and then only took three days to get to me within the U.S. I was pleasantly surprised.

Lots of complaints in the official forums about sellers not responding to questions. Judging from the response of some sellers, one of the reasons is that they feel it's not worth the time as the buyer rarely follows through.

When I message sellers I usually include something like "If this/then I will definitely buy" eg. if it's definitely this version I will buy it. That way they know I am a serious buyer. Usually works. But some sellers still don't care.

My favourites are the ones that reply with "I'll check and get back to you" and then never do. Would've been easier to not reply at all. lol

I have in the past followed something similar " before I buy can I please just confirm" and your comment is, to me, eminently fair and reasonable.

As a discogs seller, I've sometimes sold an item which I can actually remember selling a few months prior. God knows how they end up back in my inventory. I'm convinced it's a glitch. Possibly a glitch located solely in my brain but still a glitch.

I have learned to read the descriptions and focus on ones that list the matrix in the listing to see if it actually matches the listing it is being sold under. Been burned a few times when it comes to buying something than for it to be a latter repress/reissue that doesn't much. This isn't much of a problem since I am buying stuff from Japan and the major Japan sellers seem to have a clue with this stuff.

I've seen a few threads over the years in the official forums by sellers who experienced this...they sell an item but it doesn't disappear from their inventory. Most comments tend to focus on it being a Discogs glitch. So you are not alone :)

Up until the last month I've had only three issues with a CD purchase that wasn't a shipping issue. Two were overgraded. the third was the wrong version of the White Album. In that case the seller lived about thirty miles away and we met halfway the day I got the wrong disc.
Today, I got another wrong disc. I ordered BTO's Not Fragile and received Best of BTO in a Not Fragile jewel case. Also the case itself was beat all to hell. When I changed the jewel case the back paper was stuck to the jewel case itself. There was no evidence of any sticky substance inside the envelope that it was sent in. I'm still waiting to hear from this guy.
The one a couple weeks ago takes the cake. This is the disc I got sent

THe arrogant pr*ck said that he stands by his grading and send the disc back for a refund. I asked him to send me the shipping price and he could refund the CD price once he got it. No answer on Discogs. I took it to Pay Pal. Same answer. Paypal denied my request and Venmo is looking quite right now. Anyone who wants the name of the seller PM me.

Funny thing is that I got a bad disc from an Amazon seller. I was told to throw the disc away and my refund would be coming in 3-5 business days.

2-3 times I've gotten 'non-defective' wrong items (don't ask me how that happened, as I have no idea) and was told the same thing; 'keep it and we'll give you a refund' which happened promptly and w/o further effort on my part required.

Good luck on getting your $ back on that Jimi disc.

Happened to me a couple of years ago with a seller in CA; I was charged and invoiced, but when the package arrived (large order), there was no Sam McGee Arhoolie CD enclosed, and when I brought it up, the seller wrote back; 'sorry, sold that a while ago,' I deferred taking a refund and asked for credit instead, as he still had other things I was interested in, but he pulled his listings before I could do that. To be clear, I think that was coincidence, as only $5.99 was involved.

I'm not sending it back just to lose 5 bucks on shipping. If you want to know who the seller is, PM me.

I'm not sending it back just to lose 5 bucks on shipping. If you want to know who the seller is, PM me. As for the wrong item, It isn't worth me sending back. It would be like losing money unless he refunds my second shipping cost. THe funny thing is I got a Jeff Beck w/ Rod Stewart best of that was horrible. I contacted the seller. they told me to keep the disc and they're refunding my money. no questions asked. My main objective is to get a good rip. I don't ask for a refund if I can get one. The Jimi disc gets halfway through Red House and stops. I already have the Best of BTO. Otherwise I might not be so pissed off about it.

You won't have to pay the return shipping. Register for PayPals return shipping program and it will be covered (up to $30 anyway).

    I get that, I wouldn't either.
But I was responding to your post about Amazon and saying that I've had the same experience: 'here's your money back and you don't have to bother sending anything back to us - we don't want it either.'
