When you were a kid and listened to a song, what did you get totally wrong about it?

I can top that.

I thought it was 'Life in the Vaseline'.

Seemed logical when I first heard it, and I was young enough not to give it much more thought. Babies DO do things in their pants. Breaking a mirror could easily cause that reaction. The laughter of those in the room when I sincerely announced my interpretation could have easily done the same.

 

I have thought about what would happen if I were to make similar leads up but with our mains plugs looking like this, it would be far more obvious...I think.

In Money for Nothing, I understood the words chicks for free. (Being Dutch and all) I just didn't get what Sting and Mark wanted with all that poultry...

 

As a kid when I first heard "P.S. I Love You" by the Beatles, I thought the opening line was "As I ride to Saturn..."

"Riders of the Storm": I always thought the lyric was "Like a dog without a bone and a cat without a moan".

 

I do agree, however, a Lonely Days version by Lennon would have thrown everybody on the wrong path.

 

For a long time I thought it was "checks for free", free banking I guess?

 

I believe it's "I can't hide"

 

I have a feeling that, at my advanced age, there are still a lot like that for me.

Yup, yellow tights with feathers on em seemed like something Rod would wear for a night out on the town.

 

I thought the Stones were singing about the famous sculptures at the NY Public Library:

I thought that albums were recorded in one take and that the musicians had to fade their instruments, step back from the mics, and stand in silence preparing for the next track.

 

i thought Creedence was from the South.

I thought the same about the original Sam Cooke version, I thought that "chicken slacks" were some kind of early 60s fashion trend

 

Until 2 minutes ago I thought it was "chicken slats". Yes I know it doesn't make sense. The lyrics go quick enough that by the time the song has ended it's forgotten about, and consequently I never think of looking it up. I probably have many more misheard lyrics that I've never looked up for the same reason.
