Agreed, it went out of print far too quickly.
I also think a bootleg box would be a great thing. Just put a sticker on it saying "audiophiles beware" or something like that. There are a lot of terrific performances out there that should be heard.

Interesting...It could be that Universal think that the (previously shelved) bootleg titles may do better if released around the Todd Haynes documentary PR buzz - i'm certainly hoping that there will be some 'new' titles around this year.

What i've heard is that private demos stuff should be released this year.

it's always been assumed Cale has a tape stash. I'm not so sure...there were times he didn't even own a guitar...you tend to lose things when you lived the lifestyle he has.

He gave a lot of his tapes to Tony Conrad. or left them with him, hence the New York In The 60s series of albums.

The mono box from Sundazed is OOP now. Would be nice to see those done a bit better, perhaps AAA since supposedly the tapes still exist and sundazed had them. Not holding my breath though. I think the ship has sailed on those being done AAA. And I doubt we will see more mono reissues too.

This sounds like it’s going to focus on things besides music, like interviews, footage, photos. That kind of thing.

  14. How about live at the Gymnasium 1967 on vinyl? That and a reissue of the Matrix and individual titles from the mono boxes.

There’s also that Bob Ragona demo tape with Why Don’t You Smile Now on it.

Was just listening to s/t from the Sundazed mono box. Velvets are usually an early spring listen for me. Good to see this bit of news. I'm always up for a well-done doc. I feel hopeful hearing Todd Haynes is doing it.

    Primitives rehearsal tape?
True. But he also have his own home archive. Gymnasium and 1965 tape on Peel Slowly comes from him.

We did get that unexplained tease for “Never Get Emotionally Involved With A Man, Woman, Beast or Child” a while back...

That song exists on the Primitives rehearsal tape and the Ragona demo tape as a solo acoustic number. The demo tape I believe is where that Heroin demo comes from. Also features Buzz Buzz Buzz and some Cale piano stuff.

  20. Documentaries are loathsome to me because so very few are done well. They come across as anesthetized autopsies that remove the smell from the music. I do regale in the prospect of fresh audio releases.

Didn’t Sterling insist that they recorded an album in 1969, but that the recordings later released as VU and Another VU were just demos and were not the lost fourth album? Maybe they found those tapes.

Also, the 45th Anniversary collections neglected to include most of the late 69/early 70 demo acetate that has Countess from Hong Kong on it. The only release of Countess from Hong Kong was on Peel Slowly and See. The ‘country’ I Found a Reason from the acetate seems to get all the glory these days.

    This times a million.
Yes, I could get all of it on Qobuz, but I’d prefer the cds...

Should be in good hands with Todd Haynes, he thinks outside the box.
