Glad you enjoyed those. Spain has a lot of very 'agreeable' sounding mainstream-ish rock and pop rock in my view.

I'm a big admirer of Metheny and it's great to see a jazz or fusion artist as great as he is have the success he has had!

That Mason Hill cut sounds a lot like Collective Soul. Especially that saw blade riff from the Dosage album.
Rock still charts, who knew! (we do, that's who.)

I hear what you mean about Collective Soul and Mason Hill.

Yea, rock still charts but of course it's also dead and who cares about Japan, Germany, the UK, Australia, Austria, Hungary, Switzerland, the Netherlands...basically anywhere in the world :)

It would be great if you commented in this week's installment of 'rock is dead' which is currently playing out with a guy who proudly admitted he hasn't listened to new hard rock in 30 years and doesn't know anything at all about rock outside of his high school years in the US telling me about the state of rock in the world :)

I just ignore that type of hook baiting. it looks like everyone else is too. I'm glad you resumed your charts tracking, it is a simple refute of this over repeated dead idea and it also is a way to find some good stuff out there. Without the puffy pop and Whitney Houston's Frankenstein monster playlists.

Thanks! I used to ignore all of it too but for example not that many people look at this thread (or at least not many comment on it) so it's a way to get some of that information out there too by responding now and then with some facts and figures.

And you got exactly my intention with this thread: to not only highlight rock's performance (also the occasional jazz, fusion and folk album etc) but to find things one might not find otherwise given the surprising amount of albums in a wide range of genres on the charts around the world.

Strange hearing Sunstorm without Joe Lynn Turner. Ronnie Romero must be the most employed singer in rock, at the moment :). Disappointingly generic track though. You'd think Magnus Karlsson was in danger of spreading himself a bit thin too but I quite like that Heart Healer track.

I haven't followed Saga for years but I've really enjoyed what I've heard from the new album. Time to re-investigate!

Thumbs up from me for all these! :righton:

The MSG song is a real blast from the past. It doesn't better the original, necessarily, but it's a nice updating. The singer from Eisbracher wins this week's Ian Anderson lookalike competition. Practically a doppelganger. :D
