Although they marketed reissues of 3121, that One Nite Alone set, etc. and I don't think any of the CD re-issues got a different master as far as I am aware of.
More rumors. Dr. Funkenberry is a pretty reliable source: https://twitter.com/drfunkenberry/status/1374711784838369285
I've never truly warmed to The Truth, although in theory it should be right up my alley. This would be a welcome release.
I'm surprised so many people are interested in CB. Even with a remaster it's still a mess of a compilation to me. Maybe it's because I have to be a little more selective in what I'm getting compared to a couple of years due to financial reasons, but it would be an easy pass for me.
I'm interested in it. I don't have it and it goes for crazy money secondhand. Yes, I'd prefer if it gets a better mastering, based on comments from others on the mastering. But even with bad mastering I'm interested.
I'll be in for CB this time around, I don't have a copy As for The Truth being RSD only, they can do one
this poster says CB is still happening but doesn’t cite the source: Record Store Day 2021 - 12 June and July 17 *
I'm glad the Estate is participating in Record Store Day. There are literally decades of future special release options available to them so why not. "The Truth" seems like a logical option to coincide with the pending re-release of "Crystal Ball" and they could tell a good story with that.
This is the crazy thing for me. Shortly after it was originally (mass) released, both square and round cases (without Kamasutra) were super cheap and all the used music stores had tons of them and the retailers couldn't get rid of them. Heck I remember Blockbuster having a huge tub/box of them. For $5.
Truth be told, there are a LOT more copies or Monster out there. Crystal Ball was an indie release... a big indie release, but indie nonetheless. I see tons of Purple Rain, Diamonds and Pearls, Love Symbol... hell, I even see The Gold Experience often in the used bins. I don’t see Crystal Ball anymore.
Yeah, it’s bit of a mixed bag, but when the highs are as incredible as “Crystal Ball,” “Dream Factory” and “Movie Star” (among others), it’s definitely still a bag worth owning.
I've grown to really love the majority of that album. It's weird, I was an underwhelmed Prince fan in the 90s, but now I'm eating up that era, getting as many unofficial shows and outtakes as possible. As much as I loved the 80s outtakes on Crystal Ball, I love the later 90s stuff now.
Oh there’s some great stuff from the ‘90s on there, too. Especially “Days of the Wild” and “The Ride.”
The 2nd disc of CB is a gas....and "Fascination" on The Truth is one of my favorite Prince songs. Count me in!!
I would much prefer a compendium or so of songs from The Slaughterhouse/Chocolate Invasion/High/who knows...lots of GREAT tracks there!! ("Supercute" is one of my faves)...But it would be nice to have the other stuff ("Glasscutter" was only available as an mp3, even in the club) out there, too
Parade, Around the World in a Day, with b sides and 12 inch mixes. NEWS, the Black Album. And getting a chance to hear stuff I never heard, like online limited b sides. Lots they can get to.
