I really like that Edmund song. Think I'll dig a little further into them.

Saxon are getting a bit of grief for their new covers album over in the hard rock & metal thread but the songs I've heard have been well done. Their version of Toto's Hold The Line is fab, both true to the original and very Saxon.

Glad you enjoyed Edmund...it's well made pop rock which is nice to hear in this day and age.

I saw that about Saxon and thought people were being too hard on them. It' just good fun and something they can turn out without too much of a problem. I dug the Toto cover too and found it surprising!

By the way, there's a thread on #1 singles on Billboard for which I'm preparing a post. I'll of course mostly discuss #1 singles from Japan, Germany, Italy and anywhere else where there were some interesting #1 singles :) If you have any ideas, please let me know!

I will post that here too in case you or anyone else is interested

There was a question elsewhere about #1 singles on the Billboard charts. Singles charts in general are not breeding grounds for my musical preferences and that definitely goes for the US singles chart. If pressed for something at the top of the US singles charts in the last several years, We Are Young by Fun or Eilish's Bad Guy are fine but it's a low bar.

Rock fans may find it interesting to know that here have been a few recent #1 singles around the world which have featured rock of various kinds. A few months ago in 2021, Vasco Rossi had a #1 single in Italy with this tune which features Simone Sello doing extended Steve Morse inspired soloing which is very surprising on a #1 single anywhere:

Vasco topped the singles charts in 2013 with this one:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw4pjP-jFIc

Vasco also topped the charts with 2 different songs in 2011 including this one:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbgqdyN4-I4

Måneskin, the young superstar Italian rock group topped the charts in Italy for 6 weeks with this one in 2018:

Ligabue topped the Italian singles chart in 2010 with this one:

Now for Japan...in 2020, Luna Sea had a #1 single in Japan with this:

Bish had this one in 2019:

You'd never believe rock had quite a foothold in the UK charts if you followed the media. Good to see.

I don't know The Dust Coda at all. Com;etely new name to me. Decent song. Doesn't necessarily get me rushing out to buy their album but I might try and catch them live, if they come anywhere near me.

I have bought the Smith/Kotzen album. It's the sound of two connsumate professionals having a blast. Thoroughly enjoying it.

Not quite sure what to make of Ben Howard. He reminds me of a lot of the talented, if earnest, singer-songwriters who perform at open-mics I attend but I don't understand what he's got that's elevated him, rather than others, to star status. A combination of drive, luck and good management, I suppose. Still better him at #1 than another dance troupe miming to backbeats.
