'Abbey Road ' side one. In The Beatles catalog only side 2 of ' Help ' is weaker.

I’d agree, I first heard side 2 over the PA at a gig and it totally blew me away.

    Wings WILD LIFE (side 1)
Only 4 songs. Two of them nonsense songs ("Mumbo" is fun, but "Bip Bop" is terrible), one a "strange" cover, and all of them padded out to extra length to attempt to pass off a "mini album" or "double EP" as a full album.

George Harrison ALL THINGS MUST PASS (side 4)
It isn't bad, but it pales when compared to the other 3 sides. Why a 2nd version of "Isn't It A Pity"? Especially when the excellent "I Live For You" was available.

This thread is close to "which albums are frontloaded" and Side 2 seems to be the dumping ground for many bands, amongst them these seem most obvious to me:

    Deep Purple: Abandon
    Weezer: Green, Red, Hurley, Black
Sloan: Parallel Play (the tale of 2 sides)
Everclear: Sparkle and Fade, So Much for the Afterglow (put these 2 A sides together and you have an awesome album)
    Counting Crows: This Desert Life
U2: War, Joshua Tree, How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb

Looking at this list, apparently a lot of my bargain bin dwelling favorite bands do this.

Side 2 for most albums, to one degree or another. The cases where the sides are equal or Side 1 is weaker are few and far between.

It really boils down to whether or not you're a fan of Eno's atmospheric instrumentals. One man's haunting, evocative mood music is another man's aural wallpaper.

For what it's worth, I'm a huge fan of Eno's production work on traditional songs. But his instrumental compositions tend to leave me cold. So, I agree with the OP on this one. YMMV.

Thin Lizzy's Chinatown. First side is aces. Second side is completely forgettable.

I'm really torn on this one. So different sides as if they were seperate albums.

I have never really thought about it deliberately... but you might be right!
Let's take Rush for example... something like 2112 is evident... but even later, much later, almost all of their albums began with killer tracks... and then on Side 2 not so killer ones.

R.E.M... AFTP is tricky, the last three songs are legendary, still, it's quite balanced... Green is for sure Side 1... Out Of Time I don't know... Document, for sure Side 1... Life's Rich Pageant Side 1... Fables Side 1, absolutely...

Ok, small sample, but you might be right.

Or take one of my favorite bands, Steely Dan. The debut, Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied and Gaucho all have stronger first sides. Countdown to Ecstasy is arguable, though I know a few people who aren’t crazy about either “Show Biz Kids” or “Pearl of the Quarter” (both Side 2). Aja is a close one, but the weakest cut is generally thought to be Side 2’s “I Got the News.” Royal Scam has “Everything You Did” on Side 2. And so forth...

Starts off really strong, first 2 songs are fantastic, but then it does kinda fall off a cliff

It's more Bowie's work than Eno's though. Eno wrote "Warszawa" which I would say is the best thing on the side (and maybe on the album). But Bowie wrote the rest and Eno just played keys, he's not on "Weeping Wall" at all.
