Yeah, there's a great album somewhere in there. 6-7 absolute killer tracks! And there were plans back in the days... Album: High - Prince Vault
I think that era has some of Prince’s weakest songwriting and cheapest sounding production. Stuff like “My Medallion,” “High,” and “Daisy Chain” was a low point to me. And I loved (and still do) Rave Un2.
Doggarn it. Just when I think I'll never bother with RSD again... they pull me back in. Seriously, for me 'The Truth' is the absolute highlight of his AFKAP era.
Artist Formerly Known As Prince Thought all Prince Fans knew how he was referred to when switching to the Symbol as his Name.
Ha! Maybe they want to recreate the whole experience. Here I was hoping that they would actually execute the Crystal Ball Prince was shooting for, but really what they are going to give us is the insanity of ordering from 1-800-NEW-FUNK and then release the set in stores before sending any packages out.
Quick question... if you have an EU Alsdorf pressing of Diamonds and Pearls, how does it sound? Do you hear inner groove distortion? My copy is super clean, but I hear IGD. It also does not have “Hú” in the deadwax, which seems to be the more common pressing.
More rumors on the Org that The Truth will be part of the June RSD releases. Ugh. I just want to order it in a normal way.
Thank you! Everyone on here’s like “Yes, I love getting up at the crack of dawn so I can wait in a long line at my local record shop and three hours later pray they still even have a copy left when I finally get to enter the store!” RSD is so unnecessary at this point in vinyl’s resurgence.
Quick fact check: get your money ready. RSD Release £25 "gorgeous, foil-embossed artwork designed by Prince’s long-time art director Steve Parke" +£10 Prince tax +£5 https://recordstoreday.co.uk/releases/rsd-2021-drop-1/prince/ Prince - The Truth Release Date: 12 Jun 2021 Format: LP Vinyl Label: CMG More Info: Stripped down Bluesy album that formed part of the 'Crystal Ball' reissue. First time on LP Vinyl. The Truth is widely regarded as one of Prince’s most underappreciated hidden gems. The x12 trk album was originally released as an accompaniment to the 1998 triple album Crystal Ball, which marked the first time that Prince released an album totally independently. The Truth was also the first Prince album to be labeled “acoustic,” though it does contain electronic instruments and elements, and it gave listeners an unprecedented chance to hear his songwriting and voice in a stripped-down presentation. This release marks the first time The Truth is available on vinyl with gorgeous, foil-embossed artwork designed by Prince’s long-time art director Steve Parke.
This release contains one of the most beautiful, most chilling Prince recordings ever made. Released under the radar, I think very much on purpose, I think it deals with the death of his son. A true masterpiece. "Comeback"
I absolutely LOATHE Record Store Day.... but I am GOING to have a copy of The Truth on vinyl... now just got to figure out how to go about it.... Record Store Day might be great for stores, but it's an absolute price-gouging travesty for those who, y'know, just wanna buy the record, as far as I'm concerned.
Saw this shared over at the org today as well... have no idea if it's official, but good lord I hope so! Can't wait to get this!
So, does this mean that The Truth will not be part of the Crystal Ball set? Because I don't want to pay for it twice.
