This 2-SACD set arrived today (If had been released today, it would be a single disc). Very good, idiosyncratic, playing, and better than usual piano sound from DG!

Last night I listened to some Haydn sonatas played by Alfred Brendel from the Complete Philips Recordings box. I love the way he plays Haydn, especially the later sonata.

It’d be nice if Sony got around to reissuing this recording. I mean, to my knowledge, this is the only time Craft conducted any of Berg’s music.

 

I have two or three LPs of music by this conductor and think them mostly good performances.

 

I listened through this box a few weeks ago. There are some really nice recordings in this box ...

 

First listen. Alamire is a fine ensemble, and this release appears to continue a string of fine performances.

Yes, indeed. Two of them I had on vinyl as a youngster back in the early 1970's, thanks to US Columbia licensing them from Erato and releasing them on their budget Odyssey label: the Bach Flute Sonatas and the (juvenile) Mozart Sonatas K 10-15, both with Rampal accompanied by Robert Veyron-Lacroix. I imprinted on both of these, and though I now know better versions, these still have a special place in my musical heart!

Here's the Bach Flute Sonatas on Odyssey, also licensed from Erato. Pretty sure that in the early 1970's, Erato was harder to find in the United States, thus their willingness to license to Columbia.
