The reason I ask is because I was just looking at all my cds and realized I had a pretty decent chronological run on the Stones. I'm not a die hard fan but I like them quite a bit. I've never seen them live and own no live albums. I do stream so I have access to all of their music on Apple Music.
That being said, if tomorrow all streaming services went down and I only had my cds, what do you guys think?

Aftermath and Between the Buttons are big holes in the studio albums collection. I would also suggest Satanic Majesties and Flowers. The London Years comp is also excellent.

Of the early studio albums I'd rate 12X5, NOW! and AFTERMATH as worth the extra investment.

Of course not. I could have just as easily asked to list essential Stones cds.

Yeah, I've played them on Apple Music and I tend to be a Stones 68 onward guy with the exception of the hits but I'll probably get them eventually

Definitely these, except I'd add The Rolling Stones No 2 to that:righton:

Its hell of a lot better than mine, that's for sure.

But this does give me an opportunity to ask Stones fans a question I've been wondering about for awhile. I've always had a hard time listening to the first few Stones albums (mostly the 1964-65 stuff) only because its so different (obviously) than what came later. I guess I'm just not a huge blues fan. But I was wondering how much people actually listened to those first few albums and if they're considered essential or not..?

    Decent collection.

I think it requires, at least
The London Years - Singles collection
    Out Of Our Heads
    Between The Buttons
    Get Your Ya Ya's Out

    Bluray
    Some Girls concert
    Hampton Coliseum

The debut is a really solid raw album.
    ...
I like the early albums, I hear the influence of blues, but I've never really considered them blues.
I reckon London Years and Between The Buttons are at least the essential pre Beggers albums

Yeah to be honest I wasn't sure exactly how to refer to them genre-wise. At any rate, its not just The Stones. Not to compare them musically because they're obviously different, but I've always had a hard time getting into the early Kinks albums as well. I think its just a "me" thing more than anything else.

Yeah that's my thing too. I dig their its from the earlier part of the 60s but they did change as a band around 68 and that's the period where I really start liking them

    For sure.
Lots of folks would say it's blues. I see it as a twist with some blues.
The harder edge of the Kinks and the Stones in the seventies is unavoidable... it is my favourite period for both, but I love the sixties stuff too :)

Not nearly enough Brian Jones there, imo.

There are thirteen pre-Beggars Banquet studio releases (counting US and UK issues). Give a few of them a try (especially Aftermath, Between the Buttons, and Out of Our Heads). The London Years singles collection and More Hot Rocks are also good to have.

I would also add Steel Wheels - Wyman's last full studio album.

    • The first album
    • Get Your Ya Yas Out
