I've been in a bit of a dry spell with the used DVDs lately: It's either stuff I already own and/or stuff I'd have no interest in.

The Goodwill stores around here have changed their pricing a bit: Where it used to be say $1.99 for a single DVD and usually $3.99 for a complete season of a TV series, they now have a blanket, across the board price of $1.99 for anything in used media-that includes full seasons of TV series, individual DVDs, CDs, multi-CD sets, LPs, cassettes, VHS tapes, and yes, even 8 tracks.

This week I’ve actually had more luck at the thrifts with DVDs than CDs, which is very unusual for me. My DVD buying has slowed to a crawl lately. I did find a couple of nice “box set” type deals this week, both for $1.39 at Salvation Army and Goodwill.

Werner Herzog and Klaus Kinski: A Film Legacy (Aguirre, The Wrath of God/Woyzeck/Cobra Verde/Nosferatu/Fitzcarraldo/My Best Friend)
Brat Pack Collection (The Breakfast Club/Sixteen Candles/Weird Science)

The first set was missing Fitzcarraldo, but I’m pretty sure I already have it. I don’t have any of the rest on DVD.

The Hughes set I would like more if it had Pretty in Pink instead of Weird Science but again, that’s one I’ve had for a while. This one caught my eye because it’s came in a mini three ring binder and also included a CD with seven or eight ‘80s songs that were featured in the three films.

I recently bought a DVD of Glee seasons 1 & 2 at Half Price Books recently.

I also found a promotional "For Your Emmy Awards Consideration" DVD from 2007 at Half Price Books. I might sell it though...

Real nice. You'll enjoy all those Herzog movies I'm sure!

2 DVD collections this week, both of Sherlock Holmes. One was the 7 disc Basil Rathbone set from Umbrella ($19, sadly no subtitles) and another was the Peter Cushing BBC 3 disc set ($3). I’m looking for forward to some investigating.

$3 at the Salvos. I've watched all the seasons but I've never watched the movie.

The one in the hard box, with the paperback, the little flip book, etc? If so, that’s a great find.

Yes, that's the one... It is/was missing the little flip book, but everything else was there.

    I paid $1.25 (US dollars).

Kathleen Turner! One of my biggest teenage crushes. See also: Romancing The Stone, the prequel (which I prefer as a film).

Yes, I’ve seen that one already. A fun romp. Not expecting too much from the sequel, but am also a KT fan.
Thanks. Pushing that one up the list.

Something's Gotta Give is a good movie. I like the womanizing role that Jack Nicholson played in it

It's a little slicker and glossier (certainly in how the stars are presented), and even sillier. But huge fun!

    I did something I thought I wouldn't do and bought a DVD: Rosemary's Baby.

They had some great movies, as though it came from one collection: Full Metal Jacket, Dirty Harry, Goodfellas, Twelve Monkeys, The Usual Suspects, Fargo.

A little more expensive than I'm use to (£1.95 and still sealed), but had they been 10 for £1, I would probably have bought them all, and started a large DVD collection.

I don't know if you have a Blu-Ray player, but the different in picture quality with Twelve Monkeys, compared to the DVD, is astonishing. It's the biggest improvement I've seen.

I'd probably buy something like that if I ran across it-I'm not really big on the "Vegas-type" entertainers, but Tom's a pretty good showman.

Laurel & Hardy~ The Music Box, Sons of the Desert and a 5 disc set (Universal not Public Domain) all rubberbanded together for $6. The guy wanted to charge me $1.50 for the lot but I told him I was working fulltime and I'd pay the marked price of $6.
