New song: I would have preferred a more rock or dream-pop style choice for the first single but after a slow start, this track does pick up nicely halfway through before fading somewhat near the end. Still, I'm glad that they're finally putting out new material. Looking forward to hearing the rest of the album.
I like it. When first tracks from an album are released nowadays it’s not always the rockiest most in your face number from the album. It is a strong song but certainly not a reinvention of their sound.
Yeah that track sounds pretty bland. Been a long time, look forward to hearing what the rest of the album has to offer.
Now that’s more like it! I’m feeling less apprehensive about this album now after a somewhat lukewarm first single.
I’ve got tickets to see them in January too. I’ve never seen them before so I’m really looking forward to it!
According to their Twitter page the album's release date has been move forward a week early to June 4th.
The album is fantastic! How Can I Make It OK? is the only song I didn't like on first listen, but I'm sure it'll grow on me… The other 10 songs are top-notch. I was looking forward to this album… and it didn't disappoint! Funnily enough, How Can I Make It OK? seems to be the next single:
"The Beach" is an epic opening. "Lipstick On A Glass" and "How Can I Make It OK" are standouts as well. I'm not sure I'll like it as well as the first two (Which I consider modern classics) but I'm happy with "Blue Weekend" so far.
Any one have the vinyl yet? Was curious about sound quality. My copies won't be here until next week.
This band confuses me. The first tune I heard from them was that Sabbathy/Smashing Pumpkins track a few years ago. Then everything I heard after that sounds completely different. What are they?
Hope it sounds a little better than the 24-48 download, it's pretty crushed, but still sounds OK, they are getting pretty good at making DR4 albums sound decent, for better or worse ... They are just plain good... But eclectic. I hear 90's Alt Rock, Classic Rock, Hard Rock, Folk, Shoegaze, AOR Rock, Rap, Power Pop, Pop Punk. I'm probably leaving out a another genre or two
Just listened to side 1. Really good on first listen and songwriting-wise a huge improvement from the second record, which I thought was really disappointing.
