He was the opener for booker t and the mgs and it's a beautiful day. I would be very interested to see a list of all of owsleys recordings. At least they are keeping the releases interesting.
Where did you order from? I went directly to the Owsley Stanley Foundation Bears Sonic Journals website/store and there is not mention of this release. But there is a mention of this new release: Bear’s Sonic Journals: That Which Colors the Mind Ali Akbar Khan with Indranil Bhattacharya & Zakir Hussain Live at the Family Dog on May 29, 1970 Ali Akbar Khan was the court musician of the Maharaja of Jodhpur, a MacArthur “Genius Grant” recipient, and was called “the Bach of India” (Washington Post) as well as “perhaps the greatest musician in the world” (Yehudi Menuhin). He was identified as a key influence by the Beatles, Grateful Dead, Rolling Stones, and Santana.
'The evil empire.' I've been familiar with Khan for a long time too, and have some LPs that he's on; I have his Owsley disc in a shopping cart, but don't yet have it. I do have the Hot Tuna one, and want to get the Commander Cody. It's endless, and "that's not a complaint." I hadn't thought to check out the Foundation website, will have to do do.
They must be way behind updating their site. The Ali Akbar Khan set was released late last year I believe. Mark
I saw him a couple of times with band (Joe Falsia, etc.) c. 74-75/the later Warner LPs; encountered him on the street when he opened for Return to Forever prior to then, but didn't go to the concert. "Hey, Tim Buckley!"
Couldn't find a tracklist anywhere. Not that it matters, it's Tim Buckley! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092C4H9T1
You can hear part of that here. Sounds great. When The Giants Of Indian Classical Music Collided With Psychedelic San Francisco
Where from? I went directly to the site and there is zero mention of it. Very excited about the live Merry-Go-Round stuff.
There are no other Merry-Go-Round concert recordings available, so this is a mandatory purchase for yours truly. I can't wait to hear this sublime slice of music history!
I believe that “Merry Go Round” may be just the title of the Tim Buckley release. It refers to the Fred Neil song that Tim Buckley covers at this show and the venue itself. I read this while I was poking around for information about this release, so if someone else has more information, please feel free to correct me.
I found this on the Owsley Foundation Facebook page from 2017. This might give some insight as to the tracklist: Tim Buckley, Carousel Ballroom, June 16, 1968: Many thanks to Adopt-A-Reel patron, Michael Wald, for his generous contribution to preserve this rare recording of Tim Buckley. This show is absolutely captivating. The vocal and lyrical improv are incredible -- particularly in the medley at the end, where he teases at his own tunes but lays it all out on "Merry-Go-Round," Fred Neil's improvisational piece that combines the Langston Hughes poem ("Where's the Jim Crow section/on this merry-go-round/I just can't find the back") with Leadbelly's "In the Pines." Buckley was so far ahead of his time and yet such a beautiful product of it... Here is the setlist from June 16, 1968: 1. Who Do You Love 2. Happy Time 3. Wayfaring Stranger 4. Buzzin' Fly 5. Strange Feelin'>> 6. Love From Room 109 At The Island>> 7. Sing A Song For You>> 8. Merry-Go-Round>> 9. Strange Feelin'

I also checked into this thread because I thought ‘Merry Go Round’ was referring to the band!! This release has nothing to do with Emitt Rhodes’ 60s band! However, I don’t see an actual link to how I could order one of these CDs if I was interested in any of them.
