I cancelled my order for the vinyl set once I found out that GZ pressed it. I’m done going down that rabbit hole.

Im intrigued as well. I bought the 2LP set. In thinking of buying the Yoko POB vinyl reissue if these LPs turn out to be ok, (they're both pressed by GZ). Her album reissue has gotten good reviews.

Like I said in the other thread, I bought the 2LP set, and if there's even a small hint of no fill or any abnormality on the vinyl, it's going back. No poly lined inners either for the cost. No bueno.

I did a similar evaluation and got the 2LP set. Will maybe return for the CDs if the records aren't up to relative par.

Do you have a TT set up? The album was reissued on vinyl. I'm thinking of buying it then doing a needle drop for the phone. It's about $19 U.S. on Amazon.

Oh my oh my.... I've dreamed of this set for 50 years. To me P.O.B. is the definitive Lennon album. I'm so excited to explore its discoveries, and the little I've already listened to since it arrived this afternoon has been thrilling. Thrilling!
The only thing better than this box set for me would be the ability to flat-out buy every take of every song, in order, mixed to perfection. OK?
I have a boot covering the REMEMBER session, in fantastic, live, off-the-board quality. THAT's what I'm talking about. And I'm happy to listen to every second. No one but me can decide in advance what I'd want to hear more than once. My hope is that the powers that be will finally stop worrying about "the canon" and simply make every track's masters available for purchase online - every take, every track. Hold mix contests among buyers! It could be an art form which benefits the Beatles yet again, as they keep on being rediscovered anyway. It'll never end, so I think they ought to deal with the scale of many people's obsession. Make it ALL stream-able, downloadable, whatever. Expensive vinyl or boxes like this can be made for the collector's - otherwise, just offer the audio files, please.
Sadly, comprehensive as a box set like this tries to be, that task is impossible within the box-set framework. It just can't all FIT! And how can I judge the value of a "sampler" without hearing the full context?

Anyway, that said, I resist any kind of complaining. I don't want to get on here the first day of release and say "yes, but." However, I must ask if a frustrating problem I'm having is happening to other people, too...

Both blu-ray discs, when I load them into my average, consumer-quality players, grind around for awhile and then are rejected by the machine, twice in a row each. When I push the tray in a third time, the machine does decide to play the disc.
When it happened the first time, I thought perhaps it was some kind of first-time recognition problem for the machine, soon to be solved once it got past its table-of-contents problem or (whatever it was), and had played the discs through (because they have played with NO problem once the machine got over those initial two-time rejections). But every time I reload? Come on!
Maybe it's the bluray player I'm using (certainly not audiophile). Or is it something in the manufacturing chain? Will these discs become more pliable over time and stop having these start-up tantrums?
I dearly hope so, because I just want to get on with it and skip amongst the discs to follow the developmental trails of the songs, and I'll be switching them regularly. And why shouldn't I?
Since they both ultimately play, I'm not planning to try to return the bluray discs. Not yet, at least. But I'd like to understand what's happening. Many thanks to anyone who can tell me why I'm having this problem.
    Jeff

It's indeed 7.1 TrueHD + embedded Atmos objects

Only the first 14 tracks of Disc 1 are mixed in surround, the rest is stereo only.

I'm not sure. Maybe Dolby paid a few bucks to lead consumers to the conclusion, their surround format would be better.

    "Mother".

I'd imagine the last time Ringo was this disappointed with a mix was "Got to Get you Into My Life".

Thankfully, the mixes get better but seriously, what was Paul Hicks thinking? Lennon's vocals are loud - that was always going to be the case with Yoko looking over your shoulder - but if so, the snare drum has to support some of that angst? It's nowhere.

Ultimate mix? Not in my house. Disappointing.

Gosh, I am quite surprised that after they bothered to issue in rare 192/24 high resolution (not 96/24 as in Imagine), dynamics are pretty squashed. An overall DR9 value is quite disappointing while using original multitracks, when even the compressed 2010 cd remasters rated a higher DR12 (and some of the very early cd versions had even higher DR13, DR14). I know this is not an album about dynamics, but walking the extra mile for transparency, I think this could have been done better. Don't know if these dynamics are identical for the vinyl version or improved. All this aside, I will get my deluxe copy anyway as many takes are priceless.

Take 7 of ‘I Found Out’ very gutsy guitar that shows Lennon was an underrated rhythm guitarist. Good take. I always had a liking for this track as well as ‘Well Well Well.’ The early take if ‘I don’t wanna Be. Soldier’ from IMAGINE is a killer as well. (Come to think of it all the takes of that song are great.)

Thanks for the detailed information, very helpful. You are right, if not going beyond 26kHz, why do you want 192/24?
I see the frequencies on "Mother" are for the 5.1 , what about the stereo version? also not beyond 26kHz?
Some of the Jams are holding pretty well on dynamics though.
    Thank you!

wow, they both seem like plugged gigs... worth the price of entry.

I Found Out Take 7 & Well Well Well Take 4 are perfect candidates for a RSD vinyl edition, like 2019 "Imagine - raw studio mixes" vinyl.
That one was pressed in Germany, very nice.

Beatles vinyl editions have pampered us with Optimal or even QRP pressings, I wish they had kept that standard instead of GZ.
C'mon, it is not going to be for the price charged. Maybe it is a matter of full capacity now for these pressing plants suggested... what about Pallas ;-)?

I too was on the fence about the box, but having listened to the main album and the Evolution mixes I am blown away. So glad I kept my order in place and looking forward to playing the rest. From your blog these words really resonated with me ‘Because this album is so sparse instrumentally I thought a remix wouldn’t really do much but this set really works. The material sounds so fresh which makes the intimacy of the songs that much more apparent. I’d say this new remix is my favorite of the recent Lennon solo remixes as it models the original mix but makes it better. A rare feat.’ Indeed.

At least they could have said "ANDY White" (drummer on "Love Me Do"), who occasionally gets confused with the more-notable "ALAN White" in Beatle mentions.

Completely agree regarding ‘Mother’. Ringo’s drums are the solid driving force (much in the same way Mick Woodmansey’s are on Bowie’s ‘Five Years’) - yet on this new mix they hardly register as anything but a faint click track. The vocals are way too loud.

I’ve no problem with the rest of the remixes but to start the album on such a mis-step is verging on a deal breaker.
